Around the School

For the Lord is good; His loving kindness is everlasting and His faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 100:5

It has been a wonderful start to the school year. Junior School classrooms have been abuzz with fun and learning. Our teachers' hard work to prepare and plan has really paid off as students seem to be flourishing in our various learning spaces. As my office is right next door to the Prep room, I get to hear beautiful singing and sounds of joy as Miss Agnew enjoys teaching the wonderful Preps. I have really loved connecting with parents, grandparents, and carers out the front, before and after our school day. I feel very blessed to be part of this King’s College community and I look forward to meeting and chatting with more of you in the future.

It has been fun hearing about what various students have been up to during the holidays. I want to take this opportunity to draw attention to one Year 4 student’s achievements over the summer break. Ria Khanyari competed at the Macarthur Pony Club Interschool Showjumping and Dressage on January 9th. She was awarded the Preliminary Primary winner in dressage with her horse, Dixie. Ria also came away with second place in the 60cm Primary Showjumping on her horse, Bellaview Park Theodore. Congratulations on a tremendous achievement, Ria!

The Prep students had a wonderful first day of school on Tuesday. With a photo booth set up at the front of the school, each student was able to take a photo with their family to capture their first day. They loved playing in their new classroom, making new friends, and exploring the fun outside areas and playgrounds. A particular favourite was the boat and nature playground. A big thank you to all the lovely Prep parents who helped get their children ready for their first day of school! We are looking forward to the exciting year ahead.

There has been much excitement in the Year 1 classroom as the students settled into the new school year, welcomed new friends, explored the outdoors, and learned new skills. They have enjoyed writing about their holidays, working and playing together, listening to stories, and much more. It has been a very happy start for our Year 1 students.

The new Year 3 class is settling in well. Students enjoyed sharing their writing about their school holidays. For Maths, students have been playing Place Value games to begin our new unit. For science, students are about to begin our new unit 'Feathers, Fur or Leaves' in which they will learn how to tell if something is living, once living or not living.

When we arrived at school on Tuesday, we were so thrilled to be back together in the classroom. We were excited to see our classmates and have a new student, Miriam Wakim. Miriam has joined us from Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School. When asked, she said she was excited to meet new people, get to know everyone in her classroom, and enjoy a quieter working environment.

It was a surprise to come to school and discover we had lockers in our corridor. We were all very pleased to see this addition. This year we get to try new subjects, Chinese, STEM, and Design Technology. We are eager to see what Mrs. Chen, Mrs. Jellie and Mrs. Robinson teach us this year in these subjects.

I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach the Chinese language to Junior School students this year. It has been lovely to get to know the students and to celebrate Chinese New Year with them at the beginning of this term.
