CLAY TARGET SHOOTING
What's News?
Sadly, we have had a number of interruptions to our Clay Target Shooting program this year. Nearly all inter-school competitions were cancelled and attendance at Melbourne Clay Target club was restricted due to COVID-19 this year. The State School Championship was also cancelled again this year.
In the past, we have been scheduling a monthly competition for our students on Wednesday afternoons. Unfortunately, very few of these competitions have been able to be conducted this year. The three most recent competitions had the following results;
JULY
Matthew Bidinost - 1st
James Manning - 2nd
Astin Carroll - 3rd
NOVEMBER
Dylan Naylor - 1st
Ryan O'Halloran - 2nd
Riley Hughes-Gage - 3rd
DECEMBER
Astin Carroll - 1st
Cooper Morrison - 2nd
Riley Hughes-Gage - 3rd
Congratulations to all of these students and also to the other regular members of our team who front up on Wednesday afternoons despite the weather conditions on some days. We look forward to a more “normal” year in 2022.
An invitation is extended to any student who would like to come along and try out this sporting activity in 2022.
Some recent notable achievements this year is from Ben De Pedro (Year 9). In spite of the lack of opportunity to actually practice and compete on a regular basis, Ben has achieved the highest rating of A grade in this sport and now competes against very seasoned senior competitors.
At the recent Open Zone competition, Ben won the overall High-Gun award and received a stash of ribbons and prizes on the day, along with his name engraved on a rather prestigious perpetual trophy. He was picked to be in the Junior team to represent our zone. In addition, at a big event recently in Echuca, he won the open A Grade Single Barrel event and also won the Junior High Gun on the day.
Congratulations and well done Ben!
On Sunday 12 December, the Melbourne Clay Target Club Christmas shoot was held with 131 competitors (from 13 different clubs). James Manning (Year 9) competed as a junior and equalled the top score of the senior shooters, and shot off for the High-Gun award. Sadly, James was beaten by a more experienced shooter on the day. It was still a very credible effort and I am sure that we will see James’ name appear in the awards for future events. Congratulations James!
Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all.
