Years 10,11 & 12

Senior students are settling in to a routine, working towards their first assessment tasks and learning good study habits. 

Year 12 students are having progress chats with the Hub team to help them focus on their goals for the year, and are taking advantage of appointments with the Careers team to clarify requirements for their prospective lives after they finish their schooling.

Mitchell River Masonic Lodge Scholarship

Congratulations to Molly Richardson for being the recipient of the Mitchell River Masonic Lodge Scholarship. Recipients of the award must demonstrate a commitment to their studies and school, continue with their education in fields as diverse as linguistics, music, education arts and science.

VCAL Garden Morning Tea

Staff enjoyed a yummy morning tea made by the VCAL garden cooking class.  

VCAL Renovations

Senior student, Samuel Turnley’s VCAL project was renovating one of the VCAL offices.  With the help of Learning Support Assistant Trevor Buck, Samuel washed the walls, filled any holes and painted two coats.  Intermediate VCAL student Hayden Dalley helped with the second coat of paint. 

Ms Norling’s VCAL Art/Technology Project class have also been busy renovating the 'new' VCAL classroom.  It was ‘all hands on deck’ with the preparations. Stay tuned for photos of the amazing transformation once complete.

Environmental Science 

The Year 12 students participated in a practical demonstrating the 'El Nino Southern Oscillation'.  Students took the opportunity to get outside on the back deck of the Malgobila building, an opportunity to enjoy the sun and not worry about any spillage!

Year 11 VCE Biology

This week students in Year 11 VCE Biology were completing their CAT which is a laboratory report. Students were investigating the movement of water (osmosis) by placing shell-less eggs in sodium chloride (salt) solutions. After 1 hour the eggs were weighed and students discovered if the eggs gained or lost mass. Some students found the eggs weird because they had no shell and wanted to play with them.

The Year 11 VCE Biology students have been learning about cells and plasma membrane transport. Last week students put theory into practice by investigating the relationship between surface area to volume ratio and rate of diffusion. They achieved this by placing agar cubes of various sizes into an acidic solution.

Year 12 Common Room

One of the highlights of becoming a Year 12 student is that you get access to the common room. This is a space only available to Year 12 students, they can make a hot drink, toasted sandwiches and enjoy a chat with fellow students.
