Welcome Back!

Mrs Hall and Miss Bowles are so excited to be back and are looking forward to spending the year with these lovely Grade Two students. Please read on to see an overview of our learning for this term.

The Year Two students have been settling in well, completing lots of different activities including MAB and unifix building, pattern making, writing about their holiday highlights, enjoying hands-on Maths activities, doing some Maths fitness, choosing just right books for independent reading and so much more!

Overview of Inquiry - Term One 2022

Inquiry

In their Term one Inquiry Unit 'Staying Alive' students will explore the concepts of health, safety and wellbeing. They examine health messages to consider healthy decisions and behaviours. They will also investigate actions that help make local places, their school and their classrooms healthy, safe and active places. Students describe ways of making and keeping friends. They consider how actions and words can help or hurt others. They learn will learn how to recognise that conflict occurs and to distinguish between appropriate and inappropriate ways to deal with conflict. Students will also explore the type of acts often considered right and those often considered wrong and the reasons why they are considered so.

In the first week, students decorated a cut out person to look like them and list some things that made them happy.

Take Home Readers and Spelling Books

Take home readers will commence in Week Three. As part of InitiaLit-2, students have free-choice of short and extended chapter books to take home and read. Year Two students are able to choose two readers from school to take home and read nightly. Students in Year Two are also free to choose books from home to read each night if they wish. Students who choose their readers on a Monday are required to return them the following Monday. After reading, please record the name of the book and the length of time reading in the student diary for the day.

Students will also be bringing home an at home Spelling book in Week 3. InitiaLit-2 suggests students practice spelling words at home each week. These spelling words will reinforce the words used in the classroom program. Instructions for the Spelling book will be on the front cover of the Spelling book.
