Happy New Year to you all and I hope you had a wonderful Summer break. It is wonderful to be back at school and teaching back in our fantastic learning spaces. I am looking forward to an exciting (and busy) year full of creativity, learning and laughter.

As you will be aware, our school production of 'The Wizard of Oz' was postponed from last year due to Covid restrictions. I can now confirm that the show will be performed THIS year at Burrinja Theatre on Thursday 24th August and Friday 25th August.  This is Week 7 of Term 3. Our dress rehearsal will be in Week 6 (tbc). Please put the dates in your diary now. We will be looking for helpers (in Term 2) to help with making some additional props and costumes, designing a program and taking photos. Watch this space.

The 'Application to Participate' forms for this years VSSS (Victorian State Schools Spectacular) were sent home last week and expressions of interest have now closed. We are looking for 25 singers and 16 dancers. Successful applicants will be notified next week and payment forms will be sent home. Please take note of these important dates:

DANCE: 10th March, 7th April, 2nd June, 22nd July

CHOIR: 20th July, 17th August

Dress rehearsal and two performances: 8th – 10th September

Our Instrumental program is well underway with an exciting new team of teachers. We are now offering lessons in singing, guitar, drums, ukulele, keyboard and Glee club (harmony singing and dance). Please see the attached form and contact Jordan Scotney if you are interested in a free trial lesson.

All of our students have been busy re-visiting our school values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility. We discussed how these values are displayed in our Performing Arts room.

The Level 3/4 students worked collaboratively to act out different scenarios that highlighted these school values in action. We had quite a few pretend 'Miss Langs'. The Level 5/6 students assisted in creating class posters on each value. These will form part of the Performing Arts Behaviour Matrix. We also had fun singing 'We had a holiday, it was fun' and worked hard to keep a steady beat around the circle (without stopping).

Our junior students spent time discussing what Performing Arts looks like, sounds like and feels like and we discussed ways to be kind and help others to feel brave in our learning space. We played the 'Holiday Alphabet' game and had fun guessing if our friends' holiday stories were true or false. We laughed a lot. They also enjoyed singing, 'It's My Car' as a whole class. It is 'music to the ear' to hear sweet singing voices up and down the corridor again.

This Term will continue to have a dance and drama focus, given that we are, once again, preparing for our school production. Most levels will have a new song and dance to learn and, of course, the Level 5/6 students will start auditioning for their speaking parts in the next few weeks. They have already been introduced to some of our wonderful characters (thanks to the talented actors in our 2021'The Wizard of Oz' movie) and I cannot wait to start rehearsing with our new 2022 cast.
