Here is the overview of term 1 Japanese program:

Foundation

Foundation students are going to explore the Japanese language through learning about basic greetings, geography, colours, numbers and animals through games, songs and visual aids. By the end of the term, the students are to greet and answer the basic greeting question ‘Genki desu ka?’ (How are you?) with a variety of answers in Japanese!

Year 1&2

In term 1, Year 1 and 2 students are going to learn Japanese words associated with family members through the famous Studio Ghibli movie ‘My Neighbour Totoro’ and other Japanese anime/game characters. They also are to revise Kanji numbers and learn to count people in Japanese. The students are to work towards their family portrait in Japanese!

Year 3&4

Year 3 and 4 students are going to explore Japanese adjectives through activities inspired by ‘Guess Who?’ game. They are to learn and use describing words in questions and answers to figure out the characters, persons or animals. The students will continue to develop their Kanji and Hiragana reading skills through the activities.

Year 5&6

In term 1, Year 5 and 6 students will learn about Japanese contemporary culture and Japanese language through ‘ANIME’ and ‘MANGA’. This includes learning ‘Katakana’ and ‘Kanji’ scripts as well as reinforcing their reading and writing of ‘Hiragana’ script. The students will have an opportunity to explore Japanese language through imaginary texts and drawing ‘MANGA’-style pictures and letters.
