SAINTS BOARDING

News from Brett Toombs

Director of Boarding

AIEF Graduation

Congratulations to our six boarding students who attended their Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) graduation at the Sydney Opera House last week. This was a wonderful night for them, as they fully involved themselves in the graduation function. These students were well-deserved recipients of the scholarships awarded to them on their entry to St Augustine’s and St Monica’s colleges, and it was terrific to see them graduate from the foundation with the other 66 students from around Australia. Congratulations to Ebbony Mountford, Karla Mills, Kasey Mills, Amelya See Kee, Jyrett David and Kibbim Titasey.

Saturday Outings

More than 100 boarders very much enjoyed the Saturday outing on August 6 to Yorkeys Knob, Laser Tag and the Go Karting. It looks as if we have some future Formula One drivers in our ranks!

We now look forward to spending a relaxing day on the Tablelands as we visit Lake Eacham this weekend.

Free Weekend

The next free weekend will be a long weekend starting on Friday 2 September, which is a student-free day. It is QCAA confirmation day and many teachers will be involved in this program. Boarders who stay at Saints will go on an outing on the Friday, take part in planned activities on the Saturday and enjoy a normal Sunday program with dinner served from 6pm. Boarders returning to the College on free weekends must be back on Sunday by 8pm.  I ask parents to contact your child's head of residence if they'll be returning Monday morning.

As this coming weekend is a standard one in boarding, all full-time boarders are expected to remain in residence. The only exception is for boarders (and there should be very few) with approved leave requests.

Bishop James Foley's Final Eucharist Before Retirement

Instead of our usual Sunday Mass in the chapel, full-time boarders and staff will travel to St Monica's Cathedral for 5 o'clock Mass on Sunday presided over by Bishop James. He retires on Monday and will move to Brisbane.
