STRONG MINDS

GENTLE HEARTS

News from Frazer Rigby

Deputy Principal

As students begin their assignments and exams, it is timely to remind them and parents of the support that can be accessed if, and when, it is needed. Central to the Marist charism are the words of Marcellin Champagnat "for those of greatest need". Support is provided through a sense of collaboration between staff, students and parents, underpinned by clear pastoral care and behavioural management structures based on the Marist charism.

Support is provided through the following:

  • Homeroom teachers
  • Classroom teachers
  • Heads of year
  • College counsellors

Heads of year create supportive professional relationships with students to identify, monitor and regularly touch base with those at risk. Our college counsellors can also be accessed, as necessary. It is vital that students do not feel alone in their studies. The highs and lows that can be experienced, not just during exam time, but at any point throughout their learning, can be emotionally draining. I hope by reminding everyone of the support that is on offer, we can work together to develop your sons into men of strong minds and gentle hearts.

Cerise & Blue

It was wonderful to meet the 154 families that attended our annual open evening on Tuesday. Once again, our student guides and helpers were outstanding ambassadors for the College. Positive first impressions provide those willing to make an effort with great opportunities in life. Good manners are an easy first impression and this was evident at Cerise & Blue. There is no doubt that the high-quality learning environment is the main factor contributing to our continuing enrolment growth. While that is the case, at Cerise & Blue it is our student guides who escort each family on a full tour of the campus that contributes to further enrolments.

When our students make eye contact, shake hands firmly, have a quick chat and let others go through a door first, they open opportunities for themselves in their relationships and in their future careers.

Below are some of the comments received from those that visited the College during the evening.

"We were very impressed with the school, its facilities, students and staff. Had an amazing tour guide! "

"We really like the school and will be applying for our son to attend it in 2024. Thank you again for the opportunity to tour your fantastic school."

"What an outstanding open night. We were truly blown away by all the college boys we met during the tour and the facilities. Most of all, I was impressed with the Year 7 guides. My son was so excited last night about it all he couldn't get to sleep! St Augustine's should be very proud of themselves."

"We thought that the attitude of the students that were showing people around reflected positively on the values of the school."

"Just wanted to say what a fantastic evening it was last night. I was so impressed with all the students, their presentations and enthusiasm. It was really interesting too to watch my son get involved, and to watch the different things he chose to be involved with - even I learnt something last night!"

"We thoroughly enjoyed the night and were very impressed with the Saints' students and their politeness and wonderful help.  Kai in Year 9 was our student guide, and he did an awesome job."
