Later Years
It was a privilege to play a small role in our recent ANZAC Day commemorative assembly, held at the College on Wednesday 26th April. Thank you to our six Later Years students – College Captains Sam Brasher and Gabbi Cameron, Year 11 students Sam Evans and Maddie Wright, and Year 10 students Sian Hulland and Hannah MacLean – who took on the responsibility of delivering key readings as part of the assembly and did a wonderful job. All Later Years students showed the appropriate levels of respect during the assembly.
2016 Year 12 students, Tyler Dower, Georgia Welch and Teaghan Verhallen each spoke at the Year 12 Mentor Group assembly about their Year 12 experiences and gave some forthright and honest advice to our current group about a range of important topics like goal setting, motivation, workload and study techniques. The presentation was well received and we will be doing some follow up work with our Year 12s in the weeks to come. Thank you to Tyler, Georgia and Teaghan for giving up their time and sharing their experiences.
The implementation of Compass as the College’s Learning Management System has been successful throughout Term 1. Parents should be regularly logging on to monitor attendance and student progress on learning tasks.
With the weather becoming much cooler since the beginning of Term 2, this is often the time where we start to see students making poor choices with regards to uniform. Wantirna College is a uniform school, and we have high expectations of our students with regards to wearing the correct uniform. There are a wide range of options available and we believe strongly that our Later Years students set a standard for the rest of the school, as well as being visible representatives of the College in the community. Many of our Later Years students either have part-time jobs which require a certain uniform, or will be looking at getting a job, so learning to comply with uniform expectations is an important lesson. Please support the College by ensuring your son or daughter is wearing the correct uniform to school each day.
Looking ahead, our Year 10 and 11 students will be sitting exams towards the end of this term, and all students undertaking a Unit 3 / 4 subject will be completing the GAT (General Achievement Test) on Wednesday 14th June. We will be assisting students to prepare for these events and further information will be available in the newsletter in upcoming issues.
