KIOSC

Year 7 excursions to KIOSC!

The first trip for the Year 7 students to KIOSC was focussed on coding and programming.  The students cycled through three workshops.    The finale of the day was to watch a presentation by Allen, a NEO robot who can respond to its surroundings, play soccer, dance, perform tai chi and loves to be patted on the head!  Below are students' perspectives on the day. The next trip to KIOSC for the Year 7 students will be in June, where they will explore the biodiversity of the City of Knox.

On Monday 1st May, 7D, 7C and 7F went to KIOSC.  We were involved in three different workshops: Little Bits, Sphero and mBot.  Our first workshop was Sphero which is a little ball/robot and you use an app on an iPad and make a maze/path for it to move through.  We had mBot next. You use this computer program and connect the mBot with a USB. It can go forward, backwards, turn, it can also can play piano, and drums and practically any other instrument.  Our third workshop was Little Bits. We had to create like a doorbell to put on a small door by putting wires and small electrical cubes together. We also got to see a dance from Alan the Robot. He danced to Gangnam Style. All around it was a good day and we all had fun learning about coding and programming.

On Tuesday, 2nd May, 7B and 7E went to KIOSC. In the time we were there, we had 3 workshops: programming a robot sphere, programming Mbot and making a door bell.  At the very end, we all saw Allen, a robot, kick a ball and did the Gangnam Style. As I looked around, there was nobody who I saw who didn’t have a good time and enjoyed the learning!
