YAP

At the end of last term the Young Achievers classes presented their PBL projects. They were tasked with writing a report that explores the potential of establishing a colony on Mars. They also had to create promotional material to sell their ideas.

As part of the report, students explored transportation, resources, waste management, town planning, and economical concerns. Each of these areas were supported by relevant geographical, scientific and mathematical research and understanding. We saw a broad range of promotional material, from professional brochures to high quality commercials.

The YAP teaching team, as well as the special attendees, were absolutely blown away by the high quality of the projects. We were also utterly impressed with the students’ ability to discuss their research with their peers and teachers.

Congratulations and we look forward to seeing the Term 4 project.

Do You have an Old Mobile Phone?

MobileMuster is officially launched at Henry Kendall High School!

MobileMuster is the only government accredited mobile phone recycling program in Australia.

MobileMuster provides a free mobile phone recycling program that accepts all brands and types of mobile phones, plus batteries, chargers and accessories. It is the mobile phone industry’s way of ensuring old mobile phone products do not end up in landfill - but instead are recycled in a safe, secure and ethical way.

Please do your bit to help save valuable resources by sending in any old phones/batteries and chargers to be placed in the green collection box located in our school library.

Thanks for supporting this recycling project.

Teacher Professional Learning

On 12 September I attended a futures learning conference at Gosford RSL with a number of other Central Coast teachers, principals and directors. The aim of the day was to share success stories from our individual schools in terms of future focused education.

I was invited to present at the conference. In my presentation, I explored our changes to the Young Achievers Program and shared the successful projects completed by our amazing students. I was also able to take away some great examples of engaging teaching and learning strategies from other schools.

Mr Mark Macdonald – Head Teacher (HSIE, LOTE and Middle School) and Ms Carly Brien (Middle School Teacher) were given the opportunity to attend the Leading School Transformation Workshop with Dr Miranda Jefferson and Dr Michael Anderson in May and August this year. The purpose of the workshops was to develop ways of ensuring creativity, critical reflection, collaboration and communication occurred in the classroom.

Henry Kendall High School recognises the importance of preparing our students for the future. Teachers strive to equip our students with the skills and knowledge required to be successful in the rapidly changing world. The Futures Learning Team will be using the amazing ideas presented in the workshop sessions to refine programs we deliver to our Stage 4 students.
