shutter shots

Photography Club Cocurricular Program
Photography Club runs every Thursday at recess. I asked students what they would most like to get out of a club like this and overwhelmingly they wanted to know how to use cameras in different ways to take interesting photos. I give them a theme and a skill each week, and send them off out into the wide world of recess to practise. It’s such a lovely part of my week, as they are keen and curious and also come back with some beautiful shots.
I hope is that in learning these skills as a hobby they will discover talents that they may never have known they had. This in turn -may lead to them considering a pathway through Art, Design and Media subjects later on in their schooling.

Photography Club has been really fun. It’s a great new opportunity to be taking photos in the school. I’ve learned that the actual subject doesn’t need to be anything special to get a good photo - it’s the perspective that matters. I was really happy with the photo I took of the water coming out of the tap because I think it has really interesting focus points.

We get to explore how to use cameras and Photoshop. My favourite picture I’ve taken is called ‘New Life’ and I took it when we had to take photos that showed Winter.

It’s great because every week we have a different theme, such as Spring, Winter, Light and Shadow or Depth of Field. We get to take photos, edit them and show other people. We also get to see their work. I took a photo of a flower to represent Spring. It shows the hidden beauty within our school that we are often too busy to see.

I like how we can learn more about different angles and how to edit photos. I’ve also enjoyed learning how to use Yammer. Yammer is like a social media site but it’s just students and teachers at our school. The Photography Club has a private group on Yammer where we upload our pictures. I think that is a safe way to share our photos. I like the picture I took for Spring. I used the focus to zoom in on particular details. I took a lot of pictures over the holidays because I’ve learned about zooming and how it can show you really fine details.

My favourite photo is actually somebody else’s! Paris took a photo which was a puddle on the basketball court which was reflecting a skeletal winter tree and the grey sky. It was a really interesting angle and the reflection was crystal clear. I like taking interesting photos and finding beauty in everyday things.
