Work Experience 2019

Year 10 Work Experience 2019
13th-17th MAY 2019
The dates for work experience for 2019 have been finalised. All Year 10 students will complete work experience the week of 13th – 17th May. We have informed all Year 9 students this week about the process of obtaining work experience for next year and they have completed an occupational health and safety module called Safe @ Work- General Module. We have also handed out a Student Booklet with hints on how to find work experience. It also contains a sample application letter and sample resume. We will hand out the Official Forms at the start of the next year, which will need to be signed by employers, parents/guardians and students.
Work Experience is a valuable component of the school curriculum and we encourage students to find their placements now as competition for placements is great.
Students are encouraged to try to find work experience in an area that they would like to pursue as a career, as work experience is a good opportunity for them to explore career options.
The Work Experience Co-ordinators are here to assist students with this process, but we encourage students to take the initiative in finding their own placement. Occupational Health and Safety Units and Official Paperwork will need to be completed before students are able to complete their Work Experience.
There are also a number of restrictions on work experience placements.
1. Students must be 15 years of age by May 13th, 2019 in order to undertake Work Experience. (Please see us if you are under 15)
2. Work Experience in the trades and building industry requires approval as “White Card Training” and accreditation. This training will be organised by the school before Work Experience this year and costs approximately $65. Therefore it is essential that students who are thinking of completing Work Experience in the trade area gain a placement as soon as possible and return the Work Experience form for approval.
3. Work Experience with animals has many restrictions. There are strict guidelines in place which need to be followed and extra forms to complete which need approval. Students who are interested in working with animals need to gain their placement as soon as possible and seek approval from the Work Experience Co-ordinators.
Official forms are due back to the Careers/Pathways Co-ordinators by Friday 8th March, 2019 at the latest.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further information or assistance regarding Work Experience.
Jane Alexander on behalf of the Careers/Pathways Team.
