Armistice Day – 100 Years

On Thursday 8th November, Glenn Jenner and I, along with our student leaders, were honoured to be a part of the Armistice Day ceremony held by the Montmorency RSL.  Our 2019 College Captains, Angus Webb and Gabby Newton, were part of the official party, delivering readings and laying a wreath in remembrance. It is always such a pleasure to be out in the community with our students who always represent the College in an outstanding way.

Grade 5 students visit Greensborough College

Last week we hosted “A day at Greensborough College”, where grade 5 students from Greensborough Primary School, Streeton Primary School, Bundoora Primary School and Norris Bank Primary School spent a day engaging with our student leaders in a range of classroom and co-curricula activities.  The Grade 5 students experienced ukulele lessons, making clay symbols, playing sports and games, cooking and drama.  Many of these students are participating in our Forging Futures Program, which is currently underway Thursday evenings, finding out more about our school and orienting themselves for the future. Next month our science teachers will be visiting Apollo Parkways Primary School to deliver some exciting and fun lessons to show the students what secondary students learn in science. These initiatives are designed to build the relationships with our feeder primary schools and to show the students the possibilities at Greensborough College.

Victorian Teaching and Learning Model

The Department of Education has launched the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM). The purpose of the model is to create coherence for school leadership teams when developing and implementing key improvement strategies. The VTLM incorporates the Practice Principles, which are the nine signature pedagogies which make the difference in improving student achievement and motivation, and the High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS), which are ten instructional practices that reliably increase student learning whenever they are applied. At Greensborough College, we have been implementing elements of the model over the past two years and in 2019, our focus will be on implementing a whole school approach to literacy. New initiatives were also announced and we will be funded for literacy support, wellbeing support and careers education. We are also partners in the Head Start Program, which aims to increase the number of students undertaking school-based apprenticeships. These initiatives, along with a possible 9.9 million dollar stage 2 rebuild, will further enhance our College and student learning outcomes.

Parent Focus Group -

Pre Review Self Evaluation

Thank you to the parents who participated in the focus group last week. As you would be aware, the College is undertaking a review process in February next year. In preparation, we need to put together a self-evaluation for the reviewer. Staff, students and parents are required to be part of the self-evaluation process. So with the parents last week, we examined how the College has performed over the past three years against the strategic plan and considered the questions: How have we been going? How do we know? What do we need to do next? The parents identified the following as the three achievement highlights: The new buildings and facilities, the new canteen facility and service, and the work we have done this year on our vision and values including the establishment of a School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Implementation Team.

If parents wish to feedback to the College on the above questions please feel free to send an email to the College email address with “School Review” in the subject bar.
