MIDDLE & SENIOR HOUSE ATHLETICS

By Charlie Thorn (Middle School Sports Coordinator)

Around 420 students travelled to Knox Athletics Track on Monday for our annual Middle School & Senior School House Cross Country Carnival. Despite the forecast for wet and wild conditions, our students were able to showcase their range of skills and abilities across the track and field events, right up to the cut-off for the last relay at the very end of the day.

All students who entered and completed an event were awarded a point to their House, whilst the Top 10 athletes in each event received extra points for their individual performances. Points were also allocated for Houses who managed to get relay teams entered in the Middle School/Senior School Carnival.

We are hoping to announce the final results of the Middle School & Senior School Carnivals at an Assembly on Friday morning, during our normal devotion time. Students who finished 1st in their events may also be invited to join our BHCS Athletics Team that will compete at the 2022 CSEN Primary & Secondary Athletics Carnivals at Lakeside Stadium, to be held on Thursday September 8 and Friday September 9. These selections will be finalised in the coming weeks.

Finally, a big thank you must go to all of the students for a great day of racing, to all of the teachers and parents who helped manage the events and tasks on the day, and also to Phillip and the team at Knox Athletics Track, whose assistance ensured that we could make the most of the conditions and the facilities that were available to us.

JUNIOR SCHOOL HOUSE ATHLETICS

By Alyssa Callow (Junior Sports Coordinator)

Tuesday was a day of celebration, the first Junior Athletics Carnival since 2019! It was also a day of cold and rain. Our courageous Junior students braved the elements to compete in sprints, relays, jumping events, throwing events and some extra novelty events for our Prep - Year 2s. Amongst the challenges faced, our students still had smiles on their faces and worked together to encourage and support each other as they competed.

Despite the rain we managed to get through most of the events before making the difficult decision to call the buses in early to get students back to school and warm. This was a bit of an unceremonious end to the day and we missed being able to announce results or say thank you. So, thank you to all the staff who graciously carried out all the different tasks put on you throughout the day. Thank you to the amazing parent helpers who came out and stood in the rain for hours to help the carnival run smoothly. Thank you to the parents who came to spectate, your presence added to the atmosphere of the day and it was such an encouragement to the students to have you there. Finally, thank you to the Year 10 students who volunteered to come along and support the Juniors on the day, your generosity of spirit and practical help on the day made such a difference.

Results are finalised and the winning house will be announced at the next Junior School assembly. We are currently working through the various event heats to determine entries for the upcoming CSEN Athletics Carnival (Year 3/4 only).

Well done everybody on being a part of a fun, albeit wet day.
