Prep Report

Introduction

Congratulations on a wonderful Term 3 and reaching 134 days of learning. We have seen so much growth in our students and we are excited to share their learning with you!

Literacy

We have been practising our reading strategies of "pointing to the words", "looking at the pictures", "stretching out the sounds in words", and "making predictions".  We have introduced all 26 letters of the alphabet and their common sounds. Near the end of Term 3, we have started to learn about the diagraphs, "sh", "ch", "th", and "wh". It is has been fun to find these in our books!

As a part of our writing unit, we have learnt about the features of a non-fiction text and used them to research facts about animals. We have written Information Texts about dogs, cats, earthworms, dolphins, and dragonflies. We are super excited to share some of them with you at our Writer's Festival in Term 4 Week 4!

Numeracy

This term we have consolidated our learning on numbers up to 20 and beyond. We explored the concept of capacity and enjoyed filling up different size containers to find out how much they hold. In our unit on Time, we have learnt the days of the week, about morning, afternoon and night, and the routine of our day.

We are currently investigating a unit of work on Addition. We have learnt that addition means to add 2 or more numbers to make a BIGGER number!

Inquiry

This term we learnt about celebrations from all around the world.

We started our Term with a party to celebrate our 100 days of learning! We then learnt about Eid, Diwali, Book Week, Father's Day, and some Indigenous Dreamtime stories.

As part of our celebration unit, we discovered that people celebrate special occasions with delicious foods, colourful decorations, and by sending out invitations. We loved creating invitations for our families to visit our Open Classrooms in Reading and Science. Thank you to everyone who attended these!

SEL

This term we learnt about our Personal Strengths.  We focused on being helpful and responsible, kind, brave, and fair. We then explored some of the big emotions that we feel- joy/happiness, sadness, anger, and fear.
