Primary School News

Mr Liam Beatty, Head of Primary School

Dear Primary Families,

When we gather for prayer as a Primary School, we always ready ourselves with the following phrase:

Let us bring ourselves to stillness and silence, as we welcome the Presence of God into our community.

These words remind us to make room for the Presence of God in our community, not just during our prayer but throughout the week and the gifts and challenges it will present to each of us.

As a Marist school, the characteristic of Presence also encompasses the quality of being present to each other, especially when members of our community need it the most.

Last Thursday afternoon we were graced with the Presence of the entire Year 12 cohort in the Primary School. This special afternoon was created to allow our Primary students to ‘interview’ a member of our graduating Year 12 class as they begin the final stages of their journey at the College. It was great to see the oldest and youngest students in our school so connected throughout the afternoon and engaging positively with each other.

Father’s Day Breakfast

This morning our College community gathered for the annual Father’s Day Breakfast. The Marist pillar of Family Spirit was certainly on display as boys spent some quality time with their fathers, grandfathers, and other special men in their lives. We were also very lucky to hear from our guest speaker, Bishop Tim Norton, who is an Old Boy of Marist Brothers Eastwood.

Before and After School Supervision

At yesterday’s morning assembly I reminded boys that the hours of supervision at the College are 8:15am – 3:10pm. All boys who are not participating in extra-curricular activities or trainings outside of these times, are not supervised.

Year 5 Incursion

Last Thursday, Martin from Geckoes Wildlife visited the Year 5 cohort, treating them to a wonderful display of exotic animals rarely seen at MCA. The hands-on experience included up close encounters with a goanna, an owl and a crocodile, just to name a few! It was fantastic for the boys to hear everything about each animal’s survival adaptations, building on their knowledge of what they been learning in Science this term.
