Last Thursday afternoon our Year 12 English and Literature boys gathered for their Mini Masterclasses. Both groups were led through valuable preparation for their mock exams by looking at approaches to planning past questions on Hamlet (English) and The Quiet American (Literature). These were extremely valuable sessions led by Mr Steve Littleton (Literature) and Ms Kathryn Badini and Mrs Bonita Gerry (English) with support from other English and Literature teachers. Thank you very much to these staff.

The Year 9 exam block is now available via the Parent Portal and Student Café. As done in the past, students will come out of timetabled classes to complete these exams, and attendance at school throughout the week is still mandatory. Again, with our upcoming Year 9 camp in Week 9, the boys are reminded that all Year 9 assessment should be complete by the end of Week 8 this term. If there are any assessment items incomplete through legitimate reasons, the boys will catch up either on Thursday the 1st of September (for exams) or in Week 10.
As per the College calendar, the Year 12 Mock Exam block will run from this Wednesday 24th August to Thursday 1st September. Timetabled classes will run until end of the day on Tuesday 23rd August and resume as normal on Monday 5th September.
As per the emailed timetable, Chemistry Paper 1 is schedule for Tuesday 23rd August. This exam is being run across period 6, second break and period 7. Therefore, these students will attend normal classes from period 1-5 (until 1:10pm). They are then to meet at the Cyprian at 1:10pm with their lunch. From 1:10pm – 1:30pm students are to eat their lunch before commencing their Chemistry Paper 1 at 1:30pm. Chemistry Paper 2 will be held the next morning on Wednesday 24th August.
Students who have exam clashes should have received an email outlining their re-scheduled exam details. If your son has a clash and hasn’t received a rescheduled email please contact curriculum@marash.qld.edu.au as soon as possible.
From Wednesday 24th August – Thursday 1st September when boys are not sitting exams, they are expected to be at home studying or completing other upcoming assessment tasks. As with previous exams blocks, the College expectations for this period are as follows:
If a student is unwell and cannot attend an exam, please contact the school to explain the absence. Students will then be required to sit a make-up exam/s either later in the exam block or when they return in week 9. You will receive email notification about the rescheduling of the exam/s so please ensure emails are checked regularly.
The weekly session is available to all Year 12 students who wish to work in collaboration with their peers for assessment, revision, classwork or external exam preparation. The Science Centre is open and supervised from 5:00pm-8:00pm; students can arrive and leave as required. Normal student behaviour expectations apply; if these cannot be met, boys will be prohibited from returning to future sessions.
