Construction Immersion Update

Mr Peter McIntosh and Mr Andrew Devoy

Written by Cooper Price Year 11 Construction student

We started the day by packing the trailer with all the tools we need and headed down to site. On the site we began to unload the trailer using the required tools we will need for the job. We then discussed the plan for the day which consisted of fixing off the roof sheeting as well as ripping up the old paved patio. After laying down the roof sheeting, and overlapping it with the previous one, we screwed them down with galvanised roof sheeting screws that were 50mm long. To ensure that the project was as square as possible we aimed to line the screws up neatly and make sure the roof sheet was in place before screwing in. Whilst a handful of boys were working on the roof, the other half were working hard and ripping up at pavers from the outdoor area and stacking them in an orderly fashion. This will be sorted at a later time with a plan for a new patio. Once all required pavers were ripped up and the roofing was screwed in and square, it was time to make the ends of the sheet straight where Mr McIntosh used a nibbler to cut excess sheeting off. After hard work throughout the day, we ended up finishing with time left. During this time, we packed up all things, loaded them into the trailer and ensured the work site was clean and neat.
