Principal Report

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is hard to believe that it is almost holiday time again!

I would like to say a big thank you to this fabulous school community - students, staff and parents who have made me feel so welcome in my first term as principal at the school.

Grade 4 - Lobbying for Change

I had the absolute privilege of experiencing the grade 4 'Lobbying for Change' presentations on Wednesday. Student voice is an important aspect of our school because it promotes personal power, the ability to influence, leadership and ownership of processes and decisions that are made. Some of the areas students pitched for included 'high school' lockers, a pet corner, an anime day, Art Club, science club, gym club, a tree house, a tennis club, a DJ Club and more. I received personally addressed letters from students with some extremely persuasive language that has certainly helped to convince me of some of the ideas.

Starting next term, students will be participating in STEM activities in the last hour on a Friday. This change has been implemented as a direct result of the student feedback received and the passionate 'lobbying for change'. We have a range of other student ideas we are looking to implement - so watch this space...

Thank you to all of the parents who took the time to attend the session - it made the event extra special.

Timetable change

Next term we will be introducing our new 'Fit for Life' program. This means a change to the lunch break - where students will have the opportunity to be involved in a social club, fitness activity or learning around mental health. The clubs that will be in operation during Term 4 on a Wednesday include: Auslan Choir, Art Club, Drawing, Minecraft, Chess, Running Club and Creative Writing Workshop. For the other four days of the week, classes will alternate between outdoor fitness and social/emotional learning.

Grandparents Day

We are really excited to be welcoming grandparents across our school on Thursday the 20th of October.  The afternoon will begin with grandparents being ushered to classrooms at 2:00 pm in time for a shared afternoon tea at 2:10 pm. At 2:30 until 3:15 pm, grandparents will participate in a classroom activity. We understand that not all grandparents will be able to attend and in this case, special friends are also welcome.

Pupil Free Day- Professional Practice Day

A reminder that Thursday the 27th of October will be a pupil free day - all staff will be participating in a day of professional practice.

After-School Supervision

This term a new Agreement was put into place for teaching staff across Victoria. To ensure that we are able to work within the new regulations, supervision of the yard will end at 3:40 pm. We will be adding supervision to the playground gate at the back of the school and will continue to maintain the front gate and driveway areas. As there is now a crossing in place at Goynes Rd, students will be required to walk independently along the footpath to this location. Students will continue to be escorted over the bridge to the supervised crossing at the lights - this will cease once the road works have been completed.

Last Day Tomorrow

Please note that all students will be dismissed at 2:30 pm tomorrow for the last day.

I wish you a safe holiday period and look forward to seeing you all again next term.

Kind regards,

Julie Ladd

Principal

Please call the office or use Compass to explain your child's absence.  It is a Department of Education and Training requirement that all student absences are explained.  As a school we will be seeking an explanation for all unexplained absences with parents and carers.

Prep 2023 Enrollments are now due.  Having these in helps us begin our planning for staffing and classrooms for the 2023 school year.  Please hand them into the office as soon as possible.
