Acting Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Families
I trust this newsletter finds you well during this unprecedented time and that you are safe in your “bubble”.
Last week we began Term 2 with new ways of teaching and learning in homes and schools across Victoria.
The message from the Victorian Chief Health Officer is clear. All children who can learn from home, must learn from home.
On-site school attendance is available to students when parents and carers are not able to supervise children at home. We do understand it may be difficult for many families to balance their own work commitments along with the extra challenge that having a child with a disability brings, however learning from home is a crucial part of the Victorian Government’s response to slowing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) and protecting all of us
I want to thank the parent community for the way they have supported staff across the school during this challenging time for all.
Let us hope we can soon return to Concord as we know it.
Staffing
Kirrily Lamers was appointed as the principal of Rosanna Golf Links Primary School late last term. I know Kirrily’s desire was to remain at Concord for Term 2, however this was not possible as RGLPS needed the position taken up from 14 April.
Kirrily has been part of the Concord School community for 3 decades and from 2004 has held a number of teaching and leadership roles. She has been Acting Principal since the beginning of 2019.
Kirrily’ s leadership during this time has been remarkable for a number of reasons. She has consistently focussed on student progress and achievement along with high expectations for the literacy & numeracy levels of our students, while never forgetting the needs of the whole child. She has been an unfailing advocate of students with special needs and strongly committed to disability rights and child safety.
We have benefitted immensely from her ability to engage with, challenge and listen to the voices of those around her and then make considered, educated decisions.
Above all Kirrily has always shown her love of education, teaching and children.
Thank you for all you have done at Concord School Kirrily, we wish you well.

Principal Award-Luca Del Cielo
For the last two weeks, Luca has worked incredibly hard to complete his home learning tasks. He has put in a lot of time and effort into completing all of his tasks to a very high standard. He is to be commended on his effort that he has put into his writing task last week.
The Year 9/10’s were given a writing seed picture about ‘mud’ and asked to write a piece that would entertain the audience. He has used some excellent vocabulary to make his writing interesting for his audience.
Work Sample-
When he returned home he cleaned himself up in a hot steamy shower and sat near a warm fire place to warm his body.
Phil looked out of the window and could see the mud pile that pulled him down. He said to himself that he will double think, before climbing trees near a mud pile and is worried this could happen again.
