Supporting Learning at Home

Literacy

Regularly talking and interacting with your child extends their language and listening skills and helps grow their confidence with language. Include your child when discussing everyday activities such as grocery shopping, gardening, cooking dinner, collecting mail from the mailbox, doing housework, and travelling in the car or bus.

Numeracy

Use playing cards and play matching number games like ‘Snap’ or order the numbers on the cards from smallest to largest, or largest to smallest.

Celebrating our Education Support Staff

This week at Concord School we are celebrating the amazing contribution our Education Support (ES) staff make to our community on Worldwide Education Support Personnel Day, Thursday May 16th.

We are blessed to have an amazing team of ES and trainees who work tirelessly to support our school community. Our classroom support staff  work hard every day supporting the classroom teacher and the learning programs in classrooms by making resources, working with small groups of students and providing support to students who require a break from the classroom. We also have an wonderful team who run the extremely busy school office fielding phone calls, managing the uniform shop,  organising replacement staff, managing the intricate web of bus transport and student travel and caring for our students medical needs.

Our Discovery Centre team pulls together the resources which support the amazing experiences our students are able to engage with in the Discovery Centre, our school counsellors who are invaluable in supporting our students wellbeing and work with our classroom teachers to support the emotional needs of our students.

Our Speech Pathologists and Occupational Therapists work very closely with our classroom teachers developing material such as social stories and activities to develop fine motor skills which support our students both in the classroom, on the yard and when they are out in the community.

Our maintenance team who keep our grounds looking spick and span, support in the food tech and canteen programs and our post school transition support coordinator who works closely with families establishing pathways for our students when they complete their schooling at Concord.

We have amazing support for our leadership team with school tour bookings managed, newsletters collated, the Compass communication system managed, IT support for our staff and students… In all honesty our school would not operate without our ES team and we should acknowledge and celebrate their contribution to our community more than once a year. We hope they enjoy the video our students and staff have made for them at their special morning tea.
