Acting Principal's Report

Staffing

DET have confirmed that Jason will continue in his current role of acting SEIL for the remainder of the year. We are really pleased that Jason has the opportunity to continue his learning at a system wide level and look forward to the time when he can bring this knowledge back to Concord School. It has also been confirmed that I will continue in the Acting Principal role for the remainder of the year and I am extremely excited to have this opportunity to continue to work with the staff and families of Concord School.

Our wonderful staff have been putting in the extra yards to ensure that the school continues to create wonderful opportunities for our students. The following alterations to staffing will continue for the remainder of the year.

Sam Birrell – Acting Assistant Principal

Sarah Abbott – 9/10 Team Leader

Jane Stacey – Specialist Team Leader

Karen Jordan – Additional communications duties

Stacey Bilchouris has commenced in the family leave position vacated by Mara in the Lower Primary section. Stacey comes to us from Wattle Glen Primary School and we welcome her to Concord School.

As you know Kris Lord has taken some personal leave this term. Unfortunately Lisa Didomenica who was replacing Kris has also found a fulltime position at Macleod College. We are very fortunate that Ciara O’Connor is available. Ciara is familiar with the students and keen to support the PreCAL program in the 9/10 Area.

School Review

A reminder that we are very keen to utilise parent feedback when building our new strategic plan and we will be holding some community forums later this term. Please note the following dates in your diary as we would love to have your attendance and input in one of the following sessions.

One session will be held on Wednesday the 12th of June in our transition building from 9:30am – 10:30am and a repeat session will be held on Thursday the 13th of June in our transition building from 6:30pm – 7:30pm.

We will also have a child minding option for the evening session to allow more parents the possibility of attending. As a school we invite feedback as we really want to improve our practices so we can ensure that our students are ‘the best they can be’ and would love to see you at one of these sessions. Together we can make a huge difference.

Child Safety Standards

This month our focus is on ‘Standard 5, ‘procedures for responding to and reporting suspected child abuse’ This is addressed through the Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting Policy, following the guidance of the document Identifying and Responding to all Forms of Abuse in Victorian Schools and implementation of the Department’s Four Critical Actions when responding to an incident, disclosure or suspicion of child abuse – 1. Responding to an emergency; 2. Reporting to Authorities; 3. Contacting parents/carers; 4. Providing on-going support.

All staff have been sent access to online learning modules for mandatory reporting and all teachers must send the evidence of successful completion through to admin staff.

Principal Award- Selah Duroux

Selah has been making better choices in the class and in the yard. He has been listening to instructions and following them. He has been positive and caring towards his classmates. He has been giving things a go even if it is tricky. Selah makes the most beautiful creations with masking tape, paperclips and textas. He loves sharing them with his friends.
