School Wide Positive Behaviour Support – Behaviour Matrix

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a whole-school framework that provides an approach to promote positive behaviour at school. It is an evidence-based approach to teaching students positive behaviour. Research has shown that SWPBS programs are successful in increasing positive behaviour, improving school culture, and increasing academic performance. Rewarding the behaviours we want to see is an important way of increasing their frequency.

 

This year, our SWPBS Team will be rewarding students who receive high numbers of merit tickets for demonstrating the behaviours on our Staughton Student matrix. The matrix sets out expected positive behaviours for students in the following three key areas of learning, effort, and respect.

 

Learning –

  1. I can demonstrate what I know, understand and can do on my unit rubric using evidence.
  2. I set goals about what I am ready to learn using my rubric.
  3. I use High Impact Learning Strategies to reach my goals and reflect on the effectiveness of those strategies.
  4. I track my learning. I set new goals once I have achieved my previous ones.

Effort –

 

I demonstrate effort and a growth mindset when I am challenged or unsuccessful by:

  1. Trying and persevering.
  2. Seeking feedback and initiating teacher and/or peer conferences.
  3. Using different High Impact Learning Strategies.

Respect –

  1. I treat other people the way I would like to be treated.
  2. I demonstrate respectful behaviour by adhering to classroom rules and expectations.
  3. I respect the views and opinions of others.
  4. I follow reasonable requests.
  5. I engage positively with staff and students.
  6. I use positive strategies to deal with conflict calmly and responsibly.

 

The School Wide Positive Behaviour Support Team will be also rewarding students who obtain high numbers of merit tickets with award certificates.
