Extend After School Care at Kilvington Grammar School

Our Recap
Healthy summer snacks have still been a big part of the agenda over these final few weeks! We had the best time getting our hands dirty rolling our own coconut balls. Although the kids had an even better time licking their fingers when they were finished! The kids also made their own fruit smoothies. Using the blender, we heaped in lots of mangos, strawberries, raspberries, watermelon and bananas! Again the kids came back for second and third servings which was great to see.
The weather also provided us with some great opportunities to get outside, not before slapping a hat and sunscreen on though! When outside, we played some of my favourite games when I was their age. Forty/40 was a big hit with everyone joining in to make it a great game. Then we had a great time contorting our bodies to play a massive game of Twister. There was many a laugh had when I managed to slip and fall over!
However, by far the most popular activity over these final few weeks has been making balloon animals. One Friday afternoon we went through over 100 balloons when we made dogs, flowers, swords and crowns! This carried on for the rest of the following week with the kids being able to do it on their own and then help out their friends which was great to see.
Science was yet again a highlight over the last two weeks. Together we explored a pretty gross part of the human body … snot! Or as the kids liked to say … ‘boogers!’ As expected, a lot of mess was made when combining all the elements together, but the mess was far outweighed by the fun we were having!
Water power was the other item on the agenda. Everyone got their own water bottle and used a combination of string, tape and straws to make a mini turbine. There was great skill and patience shown as putting it all together was very frustrating and time consuming! It was well worth it though with everyone being successful!
After missing out a few weeks ago, we finally got around to making stamps out of potatoes! There was a lot of skill shown as the children carved out hearts, smiley faces and dogs into their vegetables. Once our stamps were ready, we used paint as the ink creating some great artworks!
Finally, from everyone at After School Care we wish everyone a happy and safe Christmas and New Year’s break. We all look forward to seeing you again next year and hearing about the great holidays you all had!
