World Fair

The Performing Arts Department is very excited to present a program of music, drama and dance performances from 11am until 4pm this Saturday. The students have been working very hard to present these performances to you in what has been a very short rehearsal period.

Party in the Park

The sun was shining and our instruments were tuned! Our fabulous Kilvington Concert Band and Stage Band performed to an enthusiastic audience last Sunday at ‘Party in the Park’ in Allnutt Park in McKinnon. Mr McClimont engaged the audience introducing the Concert Band pieces. I enjoyed playing the bass drum in the Harry Potter compilation. Everyone loved Maddy Webster’s beautiful voice when she sang with the Stage Band. Overall, it was a successful event and the audience appreciated our fine music. A big thanks to Mr McClimont and Dr Burke for giving us this opportunity.

Sunday Grease Rehearsal

Last Sunday the Grease cast came to School for the day to rehearse and perfect Act 1 of the show. The students worked hard throughout the day singing, dancing, acting and having a great time working together as a team. Photos and costumes were also completed during this time. Special thanks to all the staff who assisted on the day behind the scenes – the students really appreciate your help and guidance.

Student Achievements

Elijah Slavinskis has been performing in the Melbourne season of Kinky Boots the Musical at Her Majesty’s Theatre playing the role of Young Lola.  In February, Elijah was asked by the producers to tour with the production to Sydney for the duration of the Sydney season at the Capitol Theatre!  Elijah was the only juvenile cast member from Melbourne asked to join the company in Sydney. We wish Elijah great success in his musical journey and can’t wait to hear about it when he returns.  Good luck Elijah.

Rohan Amarasinghe plays piano monthly with the Worship Team Band at Bayside Church and played last weekend (Saturday 6.00pm and Sunday 9.30am) which was the 25th Anniversary celebration. Well Done Rohan.

Star of the Week

Our ‘Star of the Week’ this week is awarded to Mitchell Cole in Year 10.

Mitch is a member of 6 performance groups and has the lead role in our musical Grease. Mitch rehearses at 7.30am four mornings a week. It is this sort of dedication and commitment that bodes well for future leadership positions and it is something employers take notice of. Congratulations Mitch!

The ELC and the Greater Kilvington Community

In my short time as ELC coordinator, I have learnt that our philosophy at Kilvington is to foster a sense of community.  Here in the Kilvington ELC, we are so fortunate to have a connection with the greater Kilvington school community. This sense of ‘belonging’ is reinforced with the physical connection we have with the Junior School, and the ability to access many resources located within the school grounds, such as the new Junior School playground, and Library.

This Saturday, the ELC Centre will also be operating as part of the Open Day, so families are welcome to view the Centre and meet the staff.

Over the past few weeks, we have exemplified this sense of community by participating in a number of school experiences. The four-year-old groups, for example, have recently met with groups of older students. The ‘Ethics and Leadership Healthy Living Program’, led by Year 10 students, visited the Magnolia and Magenta rooms to teach them about sustainability and planting.

Both four-year-old groups have also commenced meeting with their Grade 6 buddies and plan to reunite regularly both within the ELC and School.

As the three-year-old groups have settled into their new surroundings, they have begun to explore the larger surroundings within the School. The Marine room, for example, has been one of the first ELC groups to visit the new Junior School playground ‘The Green’, while the Daintree room has participated in the Library program.

We are most privileged to participate in all that Kilvington Grammar offers its students, both young and old.
