School Council

Hans Simon

The Maffra Secondary College School Council held its term 4 meeting on Tuesday the 26’th of October, via video-conferencing due to Covid restrictions (hopefully for the final time). Anyone from the college community may also attend school council meetings, but we know this has been especially difficult this year.

The meeting followed our standard agenda, including:

  • The finances of the college, including all incomings and outgoings.
  • The new Sale/Maffra bus, and issues around the ongoing trial for 2022.
  • Student leadership processes at the college and student agency/voice.
  • The inspiring processes around the four year ‘Whole School Review’, which is distilling some clear focus areas as we prepare for the next four years.
  • The annual school council self-evaluation, helping us reflect on continual improvement as the governing body of the school.

Subcommittee reports were also tabled, and we are anticipating a number of excursion approvals, as the state opens up from lockdowns.

We are also very conscious of current serving members completing their term, leaving parent vacancies on School Council early in 2022. School council cannot operate without parents, and we are more determined than ever to encourage interested parents to join. We meet twice a term on a Tuesday night, please contact the school or speak with any member if you would like further information.

Meanwhile we are focussed on finishing the year well. Some of us have year 12 students approaching their final exams, and we know that many others are wanting to finalise what has been a challenging year. We are getting close now!
