Where are they now?

Isaac Gardiner - Class of 2010
What are your memories of MSCW?
Memories of high school include four-square on the basketball courts, cafe nachos, and David Attenborough docos in Biology.
How do you think your experiences at MSCW helped you become the person you are today?
Marist-Sion provided me with the gentle encouragement I needed to stay on track with study. I wasn’t the most disruptive student, however I can safely say I wasn’t the most focused either.
What did you do after leaving MSCW and where are you or what is your role now?
Leaving high school I originally enrolled into a design degree. I deferred University for a year to work, then during that time realised I was less interested in design. I reevaluated my career plans and enrolled into Paramedicine, after being influenced by another previous Marist-Sion student who was a Paramedic student at the time.
I have been in the job for approximately 5 years. I started my career in Reservoir (Melbourne) then the ambulance service moved me to my permanent branch allocation in Drouin. I have been at Drouin for about 3 years or so. I am a Clinical instructor there and have recently been assisting with the Paramedic Educator role.
What advice would you like to give any of our current MSCW students?
My most realistic advice would be to stress less about your University enrolment and ATAR score and rather take the time to consider a profession that you would enjoy. Getting good grades at high school helps make things easier with some career pathways, however most universities have alternative pathways for those who take a little longer to decide what they want to be or don’t get the grades they require. I did not achieve the grades I needed for direct entry to university in my course, and was considered based on additional merit for involvement in activities outside of school such as surf lifesaving.
