Principal’s Update

And That’s a Wrap for Term 3

What a hectic term we have had. Thank you to our amazing CNPS staff for all their hard work in supporting our students during this challenging remote learning period. Planning for remote learning is all-consuming and much harder than planning for learning onsite. Our teachers would much prefer to see their class face-to-face and are eager to get back into their classrooms with their students. Our teachers and ES staff have also been working hard to support those students attending onsite supervision. Juggling supervision of students and planning and implementing lessons online has posed difficulties for our teachers. Our wonderful Specialist teachers have also stepped up this term to attend more days of onsite supervision to allow for our classroom teachers to focus more on their individual class.

Our students have also done a phenomenal job persisting with their remote learning and I am sure that they are just as eager to get back to school as their teachers and ES Staff. Thank you to all CNPS families for your ongoing support during the past two years. We could not implement a quality remote learning curriculum for our students without your assistance and valuable feedback. We have been able to discuss your feedback with School Council and work together to make changes to meet the needs of our school community.

We would like to wish our CNPS Staff, Students and Families a well deserved holiday break. We are waiting with anticipation to hear Premier Dan Andrews’ outline for the road map out of lock down on Sunday. As soon as we know what Term 4 will look like for schools, we will share this with our school community. Fingers crossed we get to see everyone face-to-face in Term 4.

A reminder that as tomorrow is the last day of term we finish at 2:30pm. Assembly will be held at 2:00pm.

Guest Speakers and Online Incursions

We have had a great week of online learning with several online events.

Campbell Message met online with the Year 5/6 Students to share his experience as a member of the Australian Wheelchair Basketball Team in the 2006 Paralympics in Greece.

On Tuesday, Australian Author, Jackie French, read Diary of a Wombat to our students for Australian Reading Hour. Jackie was very generous with her time and answered many questions that our students had about being an author and living on a property with wild wombats all around.

Pets of CNPS

Today we asked our students to share photos of their pets or furry friends that are helping them with their remote learning at home. Here are some of our staff with their fur babies and furry friends.

Our Therapy Dog Jacob

Last Monday, Jacob injured his back jumping into the car coming to school. His health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to use one of his back legs. After a number of visits and phone calls to the Emergency Animal Hospital, Jacob had emergency spinal surgery on the Friday night. He spent the weekend at the animal hospital and was able to come home this Monday. He will have a long road to recovery as he slowly gains the use of his back legs again. We send him lots of love as he gets better with the help of his loving family. We hope to see him return back to school in the not too distant future.

Class Placement for 2022

Early next term, our teachers will start creating the classes for 2022. Within class, teachers will ask students to list 5 friends that they work well with in the classroom. Between now and next term we are asking you to please have a chat with your child at home to start identifying these friends.

If you have a request for your child’s class placement due to wellbeing concerns, please ensure that you make this request no later than Friday 8 October, so that your request is considered when organising classes for 2022. Creating classes is a very complex process and it is very difficult to make changes to the classes once they are formed. One change can have a flow on effect and impact strategic decisions and other class placement requests. We will not consider class placement requests made after Friday 8 October.

At Carlton North Primary School we recognise the importance of fostering and maintaining friendship groups. We also understand that it is equally important for students to mix and learn with peers who have different interests. We ask that requests for class placements are made in writing and are addressed to Rachel, Erin or Jane. We will not always be able to accommodate class placement requests but will endeavour to take your wishes into consideration where possible.

All teachers at CNPS are caring and committed educators and CNPS strives to ensure that all students are provided with a high quality education. Whilst we appreciate that you may believe that your child would benefit from being placed in a class with a particular teacher, we are generally unable to accommodate these requests. Petition for Further Funding for our Buildings and Grounds

Ellen Sandell, the Greens State MP for Melbourne, has begun advocating on behalf of our school to secure significant infrastructure funding for our beautiful school buildings and grounds.

As part of this campaign, Ellen has arranged a petition calling on the Government to fund important upgrades, which include fire alarms for each building, playground equipment, fixing of trip hazards due to tree roots, air conditioning in the main building, sewage pipe replacement and new fencing.

We strongly encourage our parent community, along with friends, family members and supporters to sign this petition. The more signatures we get, the greater the impact.

In addition, the school recently applied, under two separate grant streams for funding, to upgrade the junior toilets and apply acoustic treatment to walls and ceilings throughout the school. These closed on 6 August and we should know by the end of the year if our submissions have been successful.
