BEYOND BLUE ADVICE

It can be hard easing ourselves back into everyday life

Thanks Beyond Blue for this practical advice.

Many people are feeling unsure about going out into the world after lockdown, and that's to be expected. Here's some tips that might help you with easing back into things.

What to do if you’re uncertain about socialising after lockdown.

Take it slow. Be patient with yourself and with others. We've all been in lockdown for a long time so there’s no rush to put yourself into situations you're not comfortable with. Many people are feeling unsure about going out into the world, and that’s to be expected. It might help to rethink your expectations – you don’t have to go back to being as socially active as you were straight away. Go easy on yourself and wait until you’re ready.

Take small steps. There are some things you can do to help challenge your concerns. Once you know what’s worrying you, consider alternatives that might help you to ease into it. If you’re wanting to socialise with friends, you could ease into it by booking a table at your favourite restaurant. However, by keeping it to a limited number of people who you feel comfortable with, this may help it feel less overwhelming. You might also want to share your concerns with your friends, because they might also be hesitant about adapting to COVID normal.

Prioritise the things you love. Think about those things that you loved doing most before the pandemic. Maybe it was going to the gallery, kicking the footy with a friend in the park or even just going shopping. Try to prioritise these activities you really enjoy to help you slowly get back out there and regain some sense of normality.

Stay informed. COVID-19 and its impact will be covered by the media for a long time to come. Be sure to use trusted news sources and stay across what the health directions are so that decisions you make are in line with current health advice.
