The first general assembly of the Fifth Plenary Council of Australia was held from October 3-10 this year. In the lead up to this, around 220,000 submissions were received from Catholics all around Australia in response to the Listening and Dialogue phase of the process. This phase asked three questions:
1. What do you think God is asking of us in Australia at this time?
2. What questions do you have about the future of the Church in Australia that you would like the Plenary Council to consider?
3. You are invited to share a story about your experience of faith or an experience of the Church in Australia that has shaped you. (National Centre for Pastoral Research, 2019)
I wonder what my answers to these questions would be - and I wonder what I would hear if our community got together to discuss them? I suspect we would find an enormous range of responses, different points of view and different levels of interest. Ultimately what matters, is for us all to remember we are invited everyday, through our schooling, work and family life to enter into a relationship with God. I want our boys to know this above all things; that they are always welcome and that this invitation always stands.
Building Update
This week we are excited to be in the final phase of handover of the newly developed Joyce Performance Centre. Students can expect to commence classes in the new facility in about a fortnight and we know they will be as thrilled as we are with the excellent quality of these new purpose designed learning, teaching and performance spaces.
Work has also commenced on the Library In-Fill project. Our Library will be taken 'off line' next week to allow for the re-development of the top floor. This will cause some changes to book borrowing and return and these will be communicated to the students in the coming days.
Thanksgiving Liturgy and Year 10 Leavers' Ceremony
I am very pleased that we have been able to return to the MyState Arena (previously the Derwent Entertainment Centre) for our Thanksgiving Liturgy and Year 10 Leavers' Ceremony. This will be a fitting celebration for our final Year 10 Leavers to acknowledge their great achievements over their years at SVC.
Information regarding attendance of our Years 7-9 students and Junior School Leaders will be communicated in the coming days.
Hair and Uniform
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the many families who have been so supportive of our work to achieve consistent uniform and hair expectations as an expression of our value of Community. I reiterate that these expectations are part and parcel of a full commitment to being a member of our College.
