Remote learning 2.0 for Unit 2

Education is a lifelong learning adventure, and this is clearly evident during remote learning 2.0. I want to firstly commend the Humanities Department for their dedication to student learning and outcomes, secondly to the students who are engaging in the learning tasks and producing quality outcomes and finally to the parents and caregivers who are supporting this process. In this week’s edition we will delve into the VCE classroom to see the innovative and engaging activities being undertaken in unit 2;

Year 11 - Business Management

Marketing

For Unit Two Business Management, the second area of study is Marketing. After a brief introduction to what marketing involves, the students were left with the task of finding something in their household that they had to try and sell to the general population. This product (P1 in the marketing mix) was to be presented in a way that made it the next "must have item" in every household.

Year 11 - Geography

Virtual Fieldwork

Year 11 Geography have commenced their major fieldwork investigation for Unit 2: Tourism. Students will be completing a ‘virtual fieldwork’ of Port Fairy to assess the impact of tourism on this area. The fieldwork activities will expose them to new technologies including Google Earth, ArcGIS, Google Cardboard and various mapping apps. accessible on their mobile phones. While COVID-19 has limited their ability to physically visit these sites, the students will enjoy accessing new forms of technology and build their geographic skill set.

Year 11 - History

ESCAPE! from Berlin

The Berlin Wall divided a city for almost 30 years, separating families and resulting in hundreds of deaths. This week, year 11 history students take on the role of an East Berlin resident who must escape to freedom in the West. In order to do so, they must learn four pieces of top-secret information by reading through 9 articles to learn about the Wall and those who made successful escapes.

Year 11 - Legal Studies

The Crime of speed dating

Students have to research a recent criminal case, and prepare a report outlining the central facts to the case, the courts involved, and sanctions imposed. The cases included the man who shot a corpse and a learner driver who caused death, among others. They have to prepare a report and then present their findings in a ‘virtual speed dating’ format.
