As the majority of our subjects in the Arts are a semester in length, most of our students had just begun their Arts subject when their second remote learning journey began. Whilst some of the content developed from last remote learning could be adapted, many of the Arts staff have created new units of work to allow students to meet this challenge and I thank them for their hard work and dedication. Here is a quick overview of what has been happening in the Arts in the last few weeks.
Visual Arts
These classes have been researching established artists and completing Artworks that explore patterns and design.
Visual Communication.
The students have been learning about the design process and how products can be represented visually.
3D Art
The class has looked at work by Zaha Hadid and Antonio Gaudi . Students had to research their work and then create a collage inspired by one of their buildings. These ideas were then developed into sculptures. Here are some of the results.
Drama
Year 7 have been creating Mimes and learning about voice control. The year 8 students have been studying a range of theatrical styles including Shakespeare and Brecht.
VCE Studio Art
The students in this class have risen to the challenge of creating large scale Artworks and folios remotely. They are in the process of finishing their folios and have taken part in webinars and online gallery tours.
Music
Year 7 students have been researching the role of instruments within the orchestra and concert band and are creating music using loop based music software that is connected to Google Classroom.
Year 8’s have been studying the history and development of Rock Music and are now using additional software to create a loop based piece of music that depicts one of the styles of music that we have studied.
Media Art
Students in Yr 9 and 10 Media have spent part of this remote learning period researching and learning about photography and photographic techniques. Students were challenged to experiment with the use of symmetry, leading lines, macro photography, rule of thirds, lighting and negative space while taking their own photos of what remote learning looks like to them.
Here are some of the examples from Bella Manson, Laine Kelly, Ben Hall and Saskia Schaap
