Interim Reports released next week

The Term 3 interim reports will be released to families next Friday and provide an overview of student progress to date. These reports should be read in conjunction with student results on Learning Areas via PAM.

Please note that with a number of flexible learning arrangements in place to support students during their remote learning, a “Requires improvement” for a learning habit may also indicate that the subject teacher does not have sufficient evidence to make a balanced judgement on the student’s achievement in that specific learning habit at this stage of the learning program or they were exempt from a section of the curriculum during the assessment period. Further information on your child’s progress can be sought from the subject teachers listed in their report.

Parent Teacher Interviews Year 11 & 12 students Online Thursday 17th September 4-7pm

Bookings open next week.

To support our senior students to prepare for the final stages of their assessment and their transition back to onsite classes, parent teacher interviews will be held on the last Thursday of term.

These interviews will be conducted online via PAM and Google Meet. Families are encouraged to use their student’s device where possible as Meets have been a regular feature of remote learning. Students are also encouraged to attend with their parent/guardian to support the partnership between home and school and ensure there are clear strategies for finishing their studies well this year.

Further details will be emailed to families next week.

Information regarding interviews for Year 7-10 students will be communicated early next term.

GAT Exam Wednesday 7th October 10am – 1:15pm Monivae College Stadium (for all students undertaking a Unit 3/4 or scored VET subject including all Year 11 students undertaking VCE Unit 3/4 Religion and Society)

The VCAA General Achievement Test (GAT) is an essential part of the VCE assessment procedure. Although GAT results do not count directly towards VCE results, they play an important role in checking that School-based Assessment and external assessments have been accurately assessed. If a student becomes unwell during the academic year or exam period, the GAT result can assist in the calculation of a Derived Examination Score (DES).

All students sitting the GAT will be expected to attend school earlier on this day. Further details will be communicated to students from the Senior School Coordinator, Mrs. Sofia Vearing.

Year 12 Trial Exams (incl. Year 11 students undertaking Unit 3/4 RE)

Monday 5th Oct – Monday 12th October

To assist Unit 3/4 students with preparations for their final exams, a trial exam period will be held during the first week of Term 4. These exams will replicate the conditions of the formal VCAA exams.

A timetable for the trial exam period will be released to students prior to the holidays.

The future of learning – resume or reimagine?

This year has reimagined teaching and learning with an intense period of change and adaptability required by students, teachers and their families. As the government now indicates, it is a marathon not a sprint and the new “Covid-normal” for society is emerging. This will have future implications for how learning looks in practice.

How we respond to this year is within our control. While some days can be challenging, we make choices on how we will respond and the actions we take towards a longer term goal. Resilience and a positive mindset empower the individual to succeed no matter what the day brings. Having strategies to build our personal skills such as clear communication, positive relationships with peers and knowing a person we can talk to when we are having difficulties (e.g. trusted family member, relative, teacher) is essential for our development.

An Education Future Forum from McCrindle Research (Jun 2020), identified some of the challenges for supporting students’ wellbeing and post-school pathways during this period The role of schools in building balanced and connected approaches in student wellbeing and learning has never been more important.

Here at Monivae our Student Services team, Learning Support team, Year Level Coordinators and Faculty Leaders continue to enhance responses to student needs in partnership to develop and support each child’s growth.

If a student or family member have concerns regarding their learning or child’s progress, we encourage them to contact the relevant subject teacher or  studentservices@monivae.vic.edu.au and the matter will be referred to appropriate staff for support.

Remote Learning 2.0 – what has it looked like at Monivae?

In this edition of the newsletter, each of our Faculty Leaders share an update from their faculties during the online learning program.
