3/4 Incursion

St. John's First Aid

On Monday 7th March Grade 3/4 ‘s had a visit from St John’s Ambulance. St John is a community organization  that is  committed to promoting the importance of first aid  and believes that there is no better place to start than in our schools. 

Our students learnt about vital first aid knowledge and were able to participate in situations that may occur in their daily lives. 

 

3/4  learnt about DRSABC:

 

We learnt that in an emergency we Ring 000 and talk to an operator who will help us with what to do.

 

We learnt how the steps to putting someone in the recovery position

 

Here are what some children had to say:

  • We learnt what to do if we see someone lying on the ground. We can squeeze their shoulders and call out their name to see if they respond. – Mannat and Shazad 3/4C
  • We learnt that we can use three of our senses, smell, sight and hear, to look for danger. -  Aiden and Alexander 3/4C
  • We learnt that it is important to look for danger and how to help someone who may be unconscious – Dinuki and Charlize 3/4C
  • We liked when we played bingo with symbols that represented different things that had to do with DR ABCD. - Zahra and Oliver 3/4C
  • We listened to a story about Johnny to help us understand what to do if we see a person on the ground. - Tyson and Angela 3/4C
  • We learnt how to put someone in the recovery position. - Amelia and Ollie 3/4C
  • We need to call 000 for help in an emergency. We don’t hang up so they can still help us. - Hollie and Eli 3/4C

  • Squeeze a person’s shoulders if they don’t respond to being called -Olivia
  • Check in a person’s mouth to see if anything is blocking their airway. -Zibo
  • If there is blood emerging from somebody’s head, remember to call 000 immediately. - Paris
  • You can ask people around you for help in an emergency if you don’t have a phone on you. -Ethan
  • It is important to know your home address in case of an emergency. - Alisha
