Learning to run a successful meeting.

Last week our SRC members had the opportunity to learn about running effective and purposeful  meetings.

A purposeful meeting is one in which all participants come prepared, remain engaged, and leave with an action plan.

We  discussed some questions  students should ask  to prepare. Then, we reviewed some specific tools and tips that will  make the most of our SRC meetings.

The key to running a successful meeting is preparation. The initial questions you want to answer to prepare are:

  • What is the objective or end-goal?
  • Who is attending?
  • What do you want the SRC members to take away?
  • Actions for next meeting.

Once these questions are answered, we can create an agenda, which will serve as a guiding document for the  SRC members to know what the meeting is about and the end-goal of the meeting. Providing these details beforehand will enable the SRC members to arrive prepared. A well-written agenda will allow the SRC members to understand what will be discussed before attending the meeting and use it as a guide during the meeting.
