Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Special thanks to our students for their wonderful work this term.  We are all very grateful that we have had a productive term of learning with minimal interruptions.  The students should be very proud of themselves and all their wonderful work this term. Our students have worked very hard, and l am sure everyone is looking forward to a well-earned rest over the holidays.

St Joseph the Worker is a wonderful community where parents and staff work together and are committed to providing the best learning opportunities for our students. As we near the end of the term, I would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our staff who do a wonderful job. Thank you to all parents for your support and for trusting us to educate your children.

Special thanks to everyone for their support as the impact of covid-19 has been relatively low this term. We hope this may continue in Term 2 however we will all need to remain vigilant and continue to watch closely for symptoms and keep your child/ren home if they are unwell.

We would like to welcome all families to any future planned events however, as per our current rules, parents onsite must adhere to covid safe requirements including vaccination, physical distancing, face mask requirements, cough etiquette and good hand hygiene.  Please note that l would not ever want to exclude people from any school event, however l am required to follow the guidelines.

Congratulations to our Prep students who have completed their first term of school. All students have settled into school, made friends, and adapted so well to the new routine of learning in the classroom. Well done Preps.

Staff Update

We welcomed our new school counsellor to St Joseph the Worker last Friday.  Sahithi Chintakunta will be working at St Joseph the Worker every Friday and l have included an introduction from Sahithi below.

Hi everyone! I am Sahithi Chintakunta, the new school counsellor at SJW and am super excited to be here! I am a Master of Counselling student at Monash University and have just moved to Melbourne from my home country, India. Coming from a rich cultural background, I love meeting new people and listening to their stories, while also sharing a few of my own. I hope to support the children at SJW as best as I can and intend to work together with families and teachers to do so! Please feel free to reach out to me anytime and I would be happy to speak to you.

New additions

Special thanks to Rosa and Michael for organizing the arrival of our new hens. We have welcomed four new hens to our yard and whilst it has been a challenging week looking after the safety of our new family members, all seems to now be calming in the hen house.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

Congratulations to our Year 3 students who celebrated their first Reconciliation last week.

This is an important milestone in their faith journey and l thank Monique, Jackie, Vera, Stephanie and Pauline for their support of our students in preparing them to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

2023 School Tours and Enrolments

If you have a child and wish to enrol them for next year, please download an enrolment form from our website or collect a pack from the office. We have further tours next term and if families would like to join a tour, please contact Anna by ringing the office or via email on anna.amerena@sjwreservoirnth.catholic.edu.au  Enrolments for Prep 2023 close at the end of Term 2.

School Uniform

In Term 2 all students are expected to be in winter uniform. Students are expected to always wear the correct uniform. The holidays are a good time to ensure that you have all the uniform ready for the next term. If you are unsure about uniform expectations, l encourage parents to check our policy on the website so you are clear about the correct uniform their child/ren should be wearing. If your child cannot be in correct uniform, parents are asked to email their class teacher to inform them.

Book Fair

A big thank you to Rosa for her great work with the Book Fair again this year. Once again Rosa has raised a substantial amount of money for our school whilst teaching our students about being responsible for their money and making good choices about their purchases. Thank you, Rosa and thank you to all families for your support of this event.

School Fees

Thank you to all the parents who have paid their school fees in full.  For those paying instalments, the first instalment and the Curriculum Levy are now due.  It is important that all fees and levies are paid on time to enable the school to meet our financial commitments. Please contact Anna if you have any questions regarding your fees.

St Joseph the Worker Day

Saturday 1st May is St Joseph the Worker Day. We will be celebrating with our students on Friday, 30th April.  We will begin our day attending mass and families are invited to join us to celebrate mass with us.

Students will then be engaged in learning activities focused on St Joseph the Worker and his wonderful efforts to support others.

Thank you to all families for their support of our casual clothes day.  We raised $275.70 to support Vivian in Tanzania.

Term Two commences on Tuesday April 26 (Monday April 25 is the ANZAC Day public holiday).

We ask St Joseph the Worker to continue to bless our wonderful Parish and School Community.

I wish everyone a happy and holy Easter and a wonderful break with you family. Thank you for your ongoing support during a busy term.

Regards

Maria Barnes
