PUBLIC HOLIDAY - LABOUR DAY

We would like to remind families that Monday, March 14 is a Public Holiday.  There are no students at school on this day and the office will be closed.

COVID-19 INFORMATION

Surveillance Testing

This will continue for the remainder of Term 1. The suggested testing is for twice per week, meaning this allocation is sufficient for an additional two weeks, depending on the days of the week you are choosing to test.

Students who have tested positive for COVID-19, and who have completed their 7-day isolation period and are subsequently asymptomatic do not need to undertake surveillance testing for a period of 30 days.

Families will be advised of the next distribution in the upcoming days. A reminder that the school often does not receive deliveries of these until just before distribution.

Covid emails

The School will continue to send out details of covid cases and household cases in each class as a daily evening email. These emails will cover the numbers that have recently been reported. These reports will relate to attendance prior to the day of the report. In some cases, this may be one day, in other cases multiple days.

Students Who Test Positive

If your child tests positive, please advise the school as soon as possible (24 hours a day) via covid@bhcs.vic.edu.au with the day that they tested positive. They will need to isolate for 7 days. Your child will not be required to get a follow up PCR test.

Positive results should also be reported via coronavirus.vic.gov.au/report or by calling 1800 675 398. Reporting your result ensures that support can be provided to you.

Negative tests do not need to be reported.

Extra Help

The Government has tips on what to do if you are managing COVID at home. For further information, please click here.

Masks

The Government has recently announced the removal of masks as of Saturday for all Secondary students. The School understands, however, that there are some students who would prefer to continue to wear them and the School remains supportive of this.  Students in Year 3-6 and staff who work in these areas are still expected to wear masks at this point in time. Please refer to the full article on masks for additional information.

MASKS FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS

The Victorian Government  announced* significant changes to pandemic orders and public health recommendations that will come into effect at 11:59 pm this Friday, 25 February. The changes include measures in schools related to the use of masks. Changes include removing the recommendation that people work or study from home, while masks will no longer be needed in most indoor settings. Masks will only be required indoors in the following circumstances, unless an exemption applies:

  • People on public transport
  • Students in year 3 or above at primary school, and workers at early childhood centres and primary schools.

Masks can be removed in secondary schools. The government announcement said the Minister for Health, Mr Foley, will declare a number of temporary exceptions and deadline extensions for workers required to receive three doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Further details on the new restrictions coming into place will be published online at www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au from 11:59 pm on 25 February.

ART SMOCKS: PREP-YEAR 12

A reminder to all families to please send a named smock or old shirt to school for Art lessons as soon as possible.

Each student needs their own to protect their uniform during Art from Prep to Year 12 Art students.   An old shirt is fine, or you can purchase one for Officeworks, or a range of other stores. Thank you for your assistance.

SCHOOL HATS

A reminder that hats are a compulsory part of the school’s uniforms during Terms 1 & 4. Hats must be BHCS branded and the type specific to each area of school (eg: Bucket hat in Junior school). All Hats can be purchased from Alinta Uniforms.

FROM THE DISCOVERY CENTRE (DC)

One of the great resources we offer at BHCS is access to a curated, Australian Read-Aloud website: Story Box Library.

It is available 24/7 for students, parents and teachers via any device with the internet.

There are a range of stories to watch and listen to, including Indigenous, Auslan supported and most recently and their exciting NEW RELEASE from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI), the Sleep with Kip series.

Using evidence-based strategies developed over 20 years, MCRI’s Kip books are designed as a fun and friendly way to learn to manage common sleep problems in children, with benefits for parents alike. You can watch the Sleep with Kip Series with dynamic storytellers Tamala Shelton and Roby Favretto bringing the stories of Kip and their friends to life.

Love the stories? Families can use dedicated activity pages to practice some of the sleep skills that Kip talks about:

  • Calm your mind with Mindfulness Colouring with a few hidden characters to find;
  • Help yourself remember what you’re really really great at with ‘I can…’ Cards;
  • Draw a place that you feel safe and calm with Visual Imagery and Relaxation;
  • Set yourself a sleep goal and keep track of it with a Bedtime Tracker;
  • Print out and use your Bedtime Pass;
  • Colour and remember the ones who love you are never too far away with a Family Photo Frame.

BHCS INSTRUMENTAL TUITION PROGRAM
