What's Been Happening!

SENIOR SCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL

BY CALEB LOBBE - SENIOR SCHOOL SPORT CO-ORDINATOR

The 2022 Senior School House Swimming Carnival was fantastic!

From the moment the students got off the buses and walked through the entrance gates, the place was full of colour and the excitement built quickly!

After a final briefing and sunscreen reminder from BHCS’s most sunscreened teacher, our vibe captain for the day (Mr. Booth) and our brilliant House Captains had our house teams chanting loudly and cheering on their houses with great gusto.

Once the student swimming races began, the events flew by, with the assistance of Mr. Seskis in his happy place with the starting gun. The students swam really well and it was great to see so many swimmers participating and giving it their all for their houses.

A particular highlight was the U21 noodle race, where Mr Seskis and Mr. Booth raced against the students and took out 2nd place with the assistance of the pool wall in the far lane.

A huge encouragement for the day was to see so many students step up to fill in for any races that were missing swimmers due to any absent participants. It was awesome to see so many people wanting to step up for their house group and the participation levels were encouraging.

The level of participation was reflected in the results, where the winning margin from first place to fourth place overall was less than 100 points. This is a much closer gap than previous years.

Congratulations to Stephen G, Hannah G and Kiarna who all set school records in 2 races each! The final result saw Maranuri win the 2022 Senior School House Swimming Carnival. Congratulations Maranuri!

Thank you to all the staff for their assistance in making the event happen and to our awesome students for a brilliant day!

YEAR 7 CLAY CAPERS

BY JUDY WOODS - HEAD OF ART

Very rarely in the art room do we come across a student who doesn’t like working with clay. There is something strangely intuitive about it, it appeals to a variety of the senses and offers boundless scope for the imagination. Quite simply, clay is cool!

Year 7’s art students are in the process of making their own Character Pot Plants using the pinch pot technique. Each character pot is unique, and students will have the opportunity to pot a succulent in the head of their character to simulate hair.

Year 7’s look forward to sharing there finished creations with you in the coming weeks.

JUNIOR SCHOOL BUILDING

BY WILL NEIL - BUSINESS MANAGER

On Tuesday the Junior School team had a first tour of their highly anticipated new teaching and learning spaces that will become available to them in Term 4 when our new Junior School building is completed. The group was amazed by how big the classroom spaces were and inspired by the possibilities they open up for innovation in their teaching practice. It was also remarked how the high vantage point makes it feel like you are sitting in the tree canopy of the forest along Monbulk Creek.

SURF'S UP FOR YEAR 9

BY BEN WHITE - YEAR 9 PROGRAM CO-ORDINATOR

Picturesque swell, sunny days and an excited group of students. Amid the complex, current state of the world, the year 9’s got away for a wonderful 3 day camp of surfing, kayaking and participating in team building activities.

Although there were some quirks to this camp, the students did an amazing job of adapting. Some slept in cabins as normal, others were down on the oval in tents with some even in swags. Meals inside and outside to reduce congestion were made effortless as the weather held out and gave us comfortable conditions to eat, play and rest for the duration of the camp.

We had first time surfers standing, fear of heights being challenged; in some cases conquered, and teamwork on display throughout. Some of the more competitive aspects of camp were revealed in Ed’s Alley and a hotly contested game of Kubb in the afternoons with games master, Mr Knop. Students were able to connect with peers and staff, really embracing the chance to get away and setting the tone for a fantastic year to come

in Year 9.
