Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

What a fantastic week of learning in the Inquiry Centre! Even though it was another four day week, the 1/2 Teachers were so impressed with how students engaged with their learning tasks this week. A big thank you to all families for booking a 3 Way Conference Time, we are so excited to share your children's learning and achievements this term!

In Writing sessions, students explored how to have exciting, engaging endings. We were blown away by the progress we saw when students completed their narrative Cold Write about a toy that came to life. In partners, students edited their work by adding wow words, checking punctuation is in the best spot making sure they had an exciting ending.

Our focus for reading last week was clarifying. This involved us clarifying the meaning of unknown words by looking for clues in the text, using a dictionary and finding some synonyms for the word. This might be something you continue at home with your child when you are reading each night. Additionally, we clarified what we had read, checking that we understood what we were reading.

Mathematics lessons have looked a little bit different this week, with students engaging in lots of problem-solving lessons. It was fantastic to see everyone using one of the following strategies to solve their problem:

  • draw a table;
  • make a diagram;
  • use hands-on materials;
  • write an equation
  • guess and check

During our Wellbeing sessions, we have focused on building friendships, with students having the opportunity to role-play what they could say or do to check in with people in the playground. We have also continued our Science rotations, with students visiting a new 1/2 classroom each week to learn more about our bodies, Ozobots, STEM challenges and life cycles.

As we get closer to our Guided Inquiry showcase, students have been working hard to add information about where their families come from and what cultures they connect to. We can not wait for another fantastic week of school, have a wonderful week!
