Outdoor Ed Update

Year 10

As part of the year 10 Outdoor and Environmental Education, students have attended day trips to Lake Narracan and Blue Rock Dam. They have been preparing for their overnight camp to Lake Tyers by learning the skills to successfully paddle a canoe, information about local environments, how to stay safe while paddling and how to set up their tents. In the coming weeks, students will develop their camp cooking skills by practising on a Trangia stove and will plan their meals for camp.

Well done to the 2022 Swimming Champions who accumulated the most points in their age group at the Lowanna Swimming Carnival.

Swimming Records 

Congratulations to Zane Poxon and Darcy Connell who both broke a Lowanna College record at our swimming carnival. Zane completed the 14 years boys 50m freestyle in just 29.95 seconds, beating the 2021 record of 30.37. Darcy swam the 15 years boys 50m freestyle in 28.40 seconds, breaking the longstanding, 22-year-old record of 29.31 seconds from 2000.

Athlete of the Month- Aaron Abuan

Special congratulations to Sports Academy student, Aaron Abuan who competed in the Gippsland Country Region Track and Field Championships and left with impressive results. After running the 100m sprint in 12.50 seconds and the 200m sprint in 25.32 seconds, Aaron secured 3rd place in each event, and set a personal best in the 200m. Aaron then earnt himself 2nd place in the long jump, with a distance of 5.19m. To finish off the day, Aaron secured 1st place in the triple jump, with a massive distance of 11.89m, setting a personal best and now holding the Gippsland region record. 

Well done Aaron and good luck with State Athletics!  

Volleyball Tournament 

Just a reminder volleyball games will be held at lunchtime (1:25pm) in the gym every Monday (Year 7+8) and Wednesday (Year 9-12). All students should have appropriate sports uniform. 

 

This competition is an opportunity for all students to participate and earn points for their house colour!
