College Chess Competition
Over the last few weeks, Mr McLeish has been running a fiecely contested chess competition. The Grand Final has been held this week with Brad Lidgard competing against John Harris. Congratulations to Bradley Lidgard who has defeated John in an absolute epic encounter 2 - 1 in the Grand Final. Both boys and, in fact, all the competitors should be congratulated for their sportsmanship and classic play throughout the entire tournament. Thank you Mr McLeish for running the competition.
FINAL TIME: The tension in the air was evident on Tuesday.
SEMI FINAL ACTION: Tom Honeysett and John Harris came head to head in the semis with John the victor.
Armidale Show
A number of our agriculture students attended the show in Armidale today and participated in the judging competition. They were blessed with good weather and learnt a lot.
Fifty students competed in the junior stock and produce appraisal events with great success. Classes included merino sheep, meat sheep, grain and pulses, stock horses, cattle and vegetables.
Results as follows:
Merino Sheep 12 and under - Dominic Miller 5th
Merino Sheep 13-16 - Bronte Swain 1st, Brayden Grieve 3rd.
Merino sheep 16-18 – Isabelle Kelly 1st, Harry Pennington 4th.
Meat Sheep 12 and under – Isaac Starr ( St. Marys) 4th
Meat Sheep 13-15 - Hunter Scrivener 1st, Lachlan 4th
Meat sheep – 16-18 Angela Ryan 1st, Isabelle Kelly 2nd Harry Pennington 4th.
Grain and Pulses – Sam Hayes 2nd, Bronte Swain 3rd.
Fruit and vegetables – Angela Ryan 1st.
Beef Cattle – Angela Ryan 1st, Abby van Eyk 3rd.
Stock Horses – Champion Paraders – Emma Gray 1st, Sam Graham 2nd.
In the pavilion
Our wool achieved credible results with a 2nd in the hogget fleece and 2nd in the pair of fleeces and champion novice fleece overall.
Dominic Miller had great success with his woodwork and Deegan Smith took home a blue ribbon with his space lego construction. Reba Ramage won the scarecrow competition.
On Wednesday Year 9 Ag had fun making critters out of vegetables and we exhibited them and some vegetables Check out the photos for all the fun.
Harry Partridge grew the heaviest pumpkin.
Debating
Mrs Jenny Roff
This week we begun friendly debates in all year groups against TAS. They will serve as excellent practice as we head into the Armidale Diocesan Competition, as well as the National Virtual Debating Competition later in the year that sees us competing against schools from all across Australia.
On Tuesday the Year 8 team consisting of Jess MacMahon, James Everett, Maddy Cowley and Maggie Ridley won their debate against TAS. We had narrow losses with Year 10 and Year 12 debates vs TAS. Sophie Ridley was announced as the best speaker of her debate with a structured and analytical approach combined with fierce rebuttal skills.
School of Rock Rehearsals
Students and staff are excited to be rehearsing again for our College musical 'School of Rock'. On Tuesday the cast were rehearsing a scene in the Merici Centre and were getting right into their characters under the guidance of Nick Troon, Miss Plane, Mrs Killen and Miss Roache. We are looking forward to seeing all the music and drama rehearsals continue to come together into a great performance.
