Athletics NSW Junior Champs - Sydney

On the weekend of the 25-7 of February, three of our students competed in the NSW Junior Championships at Homebush Sydney.  Tom Bible,  Brooke Newberry and Emerson Fittler made the trip to the City in order to  match up alongside some of the best in the New South Wales.

BROOKE NEWBERRY: Persistence brings results.

Brooke Newberry, a regular at big events competed in the 3000m race walk with a break through 16:08.17 to claim the bronze medal in a 45 second personal best time which is also a well earned National Championships qualifier.  Well done Brooke.

Competing against some older athletes in the U20 age group, Emerson Fittler has returned to the track after injury running with impressive times in the 100m/200m double (11.31 (-0.6 headwind)/22.77 (-1.3 headwind)) coming 15th and 10th in the State respectively.

With some good hit outs on synthetic tracks in the lead up, Tom Bible competed in the 3000m under 20 race running 9:51.74 for 14th in NSW as well as the 1500m event where he ran a swift 4:23.06 (20th).

We look forward to following our track and field athletes from O'Connor through the CCC athletics season as well as their further pursuits in Athletics NSW competitions.

Sporting Update

Mr Honneysett

Sports Coordinator

Well done to Logan Dalli, who has been representing the Northern Tigers U18's Rugby League side, in the state wide, Laurie Daley Cup.

Logan has recently played games against the North Coast Titans, Newcastle Knights and Western Division.

Good luck to Zac Walters, Logan Dalli, Jackson Riggall, Henry Carlon and James Lawry, who will compete in a combined Armidale/Lismore Diocesan Rugby League Trials next Wednesday 16th in Ballina. Those successful from these trials, will contest the Northern Country Trials, against Maitland/Newcastle Diocese, at South West Rocks, later in the month.

Our senior girls have enjoyed playing in the PLC Futsal Competition. They've had some great games against PLC, TAS and NEGS.

On Thursday our students and staff traveled to Inverell to compete in the  Diocesan U15’s Girls and Boys Touch Football Carnival. In warm weather they played 4 or 5 games before the Possibles vs Probables.

Shanae Wark, Ella Vidler, Lillie Kelly, Josh Bible, Jackson Riggall, Charlie Foster, Tommy Schaefer, Ben Kaberry and Jacob Miller have gained selection in the Armidale Diocesan Touch Football Team, to contest the NSWCCC Touch Championships, in Nelson Bay, on March 29. Many thanks to Camilla, Felicity and Ross for coaching and supporting our students who were fantastic, on and off the field.Special thanks to Sophie Carson who officiated in many games in the stifling heat, without complaint.
