Senior School

5/6 JDZ & 5/6 JD

Welcome back for Term Two!  We are looking forward to what this term has in store with lots of learning as well as lots of other various activities!

IN OUR LEARNING

We have started some new units in the various learning areas this term.

In Reading, we have been exploring the difference between literal and inferential information. We have also developed understanding of Questioning and how we can use thin or thick questions to clarify understanding of a text.

In Maths, we have been looking at BODMAS and how we use the Order of Operations to solve equations with multiple processes. It has been a fun challenge putting this into practice!

In Writing, our focus has been on Persuasive Writing. We have really broken down our approach to this genre, looking in depth at the use of language devices and sizzling starts to enhance the effectiveness of persuasion.

In Humanities this term, our topic is Economics. We have just begun working on a fun spending/budgeting project where students need to work as a travel agent to plan a holiday for their chosen clients. Through the project they will need to consider needs vs wants and understand how to manage a restricted budget.

AFL CLINICS

Last week we were lucky to have Sam visit us and run some footy clinics with our students. She focused on basic skills but integrated it into some fun games that everyone enjoyed!

BUDDIES

Our Grade 6 students meet with their prep buddies once a fortnight and got together for the first time this term on Tuesday!

INTERSCHOOL SPORT

Our first Winter Interschool Sports games took place last Friday. We travelled across the highway to Kurrun, where we competed in Netball, Soccer and T-Ball.

It was a wonderful morning with great sportsmanship shown by students from both schools!

ANZAC DAY CEREMONY

OPS was well represented at the Officer ANZAC Day ceremony. Some of our leaders, Mackenzie, Isabelle and Olivia laid a wreath on behalf of the school, while some of our other students tied poppies to gate.
