Hoodie Up for Autism Day

On Friday 28th April we wore Hoodies to raise awareness for people with Autism.  We read the book, ‘My friend has Autism’, and discussed the reasons for raising awareness and how to be accepting of others and to celebrate everyone’s diversity.

Maths Blast

Last week during Maths Blast, the Grade 4s played a Multiplication Facts game.  This can easily be played at home! Write the product (answer) to different multiplcation facts, roll two dice, multiply the numbers and cover the answer with a counter or piece of LEGO. The first person to cover the most numbers wins!

Maths

This week we've been looking at Area and Perimeter. We launched the topic by investigating how much carpet we would need to re-carpet our classroom. We then used Lego to create different shapes to Measure Perimeter and area using cm squared in grid books, before moving onto designing our own dream homes. We will be continuing on with exploring measurement into next week as well.

History Walk

On Tuesday morning, with a break in the rain, we were able to head out for our Local History Walk. We learnt about the history of St Francis Xavier Church, before heading over to Frankston Primary School to visit the OLD School Museum. We learnt about what school was like in the olden days, as well as the history of schools in the Frankston area. As time got away from us we didn't make it down to the foreshore, but we did walk back to school via Beauty Park and learnt all about the history of the park, including the lake which used to play host to a miniature zoo!

On Wednesday back at school, we had a follow up lesson where we learnt about the history of the Mechanics Hall and how Oliver's Hill came to be called Oliver's Hill.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all our wonderful students who braved the rain and ran their hearts out in our school cross country.

Indigenous Incursion

Last week we had an Indigenous Incursion where we learnt all about Indigenous Australian Culture. We listened to a speaker who had travelled all around Australia and gathered different artefacts and information to share. We also got to explore some of the artefacts and hunting tools such as, a real kangaroo paw, emu foot, bush tucker, snakes, making fire with rubbing sticks, making flour with stones, etc. We learnt so much and it was a great experience.
