This dynamic presentation gave our students a visual and tactile experience of traditional technologies used by indigenous peoples across the varied environments of Australia – deserts, mountains, rivers and seashores.
Our presenter Philip Green, had a large collection of museum-quality artefacts which were given out in multiple touch-boxes for students to examine and handle. A National Geographic photographer, Philip used his stunning photos in an audio-visual presentation of the native plants and wildlife used for food, clothing, medicine, shelter, weapons and art.
On Tuesday the Year 3/4s went on a historical walking tour of Frankston, taking in some of our local buildings and areas of interest. We were able to visit the Church and Old School on the site of Frankston Primary amongst other sites. We prompted the students to think about how they knew the building was historic and consider why the building is still there. We asked the students to identify changes to the building and it's surrounds that would've occurred since it was originally constructed. We then returned to class to reflect on what we had seen and think about Frankston in the context of Now and Then.
On Tuesday we participated in the 2023 SFX Cross Country at Beauty Park. It was a great opportunity for our school to gather and support one another, despite the rain and cold weather. Each student had the opportunity to run or walk and earn points for their House team (Kurrong, Kardinia, War-reen or Beek). Students who were able to successfully run the required distance and complete it comfortably will now have the opportunity to run at the District Cross Country event at Woodleigh on Friday 19th May against students from other Bayside District schools.
Thank you to all our wonderful Mum's and the significant women in our lives who were able to attend Mass yesterday. It was so wonderful to see you all there. I hope you all got the opportunity to come and enjoy a delicious morning tea back at the school. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish my Mum and all the Mum's of our SFX community a very happy and restful Mother's Day.
Enjoy your weekend
Kind regards, Brendan.
