Prep
Literacy
After Anzac Day, the Preps participated in a guided drawing activity responding to the Anzac Ted story. The students listened to instructions and copied the instructions onto paper, and created Anzac Ted. The Anzac Teds are on display in the school. They look fantastic! The Year 1/2s Anzac remembrance display includes the Prep students' soldier silhouettes. The silhouettes are striking.
The students have been very excited about writing simple CVC words. The students were told a simple word, and then they could independently write it using the correct beginning and end sounds. They all felt proud of their writing. In addition, the Preps have been practising correctly articulating the sound /p/; the sound /p/ is a gentle puff of air between the mouth and lips.
Maths
In Maths, the Preps are learning the additive strategy of combining. The additive process of combining is the foundation phase of addition. Through storytelling and using concrete materials, the students have been exploring combining two collections of objects and then finding the sum of all the objects together. They have also been exploring splitting or partitioning a whole number in many different ways.
Inquiry
This term in Inquiry, the Preps will be researching and investigating the different features of creatures and how these features help animals survive in their habitat. We are all looking forward to the excursion to the Moonlit Sanctuary. The excursion will be a great opportunity for the students to see the features of various animals up close in their habitat and have the chance to ask the animal rangers questions about them.
Cross Country
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the school cross country this week. Even though it was raining, cold and windy, you demonstrated resilience, enthusiasm and a positive attitude.
