Maths

Our unit focussing on measurement ended with an investigation into mass, where we estimated the weight of objects, compared them to identify which were heavier and which were lighter, then confirmed their weights using balance scales.

We have moved on to focus now on fractions, including how to identify, order, model and compare decimal fractions.

We have begun to use a variety of Maths Games to give students a chance to utilise their maths thinking in a game scenario, and we encourage you to play these games at home. When you play, part of the learning is to justify responses and explain them mathematically. To help, there are explanatory videos available on the website https://www.lovemaths.me/games

Ask your child what they have played recently, and encourage them to explain their thinking as they play. Can you beat them?

Literacy

We have a new writing focus for the term when we are concentrating on our sentences. We are exploring compound and complex sentences when reading and writing. It has been a challenge to identify these types of sentences so we hope to create better writing pieces in the coming weeks with this as our focus.

Cross Country

We had our School Cross Country trials this week in challenging conditions, with cold winds and the occasional shower making the task of completing the course that little bit more difficult than what we experience during running club. It was great to see all students willing to have a go and everyone completed the course. The School Team will be selected and those successful students that make the team will be invited to run against other schools at Woodleigh later this term.

Interschool Sports

Tomorrow we will head to Frankston East Primary School for a practice match of Soccer and Netball. Don't forget to wear your PE uniform and bring a change of clothes in case it is a bit wet.

We will have another practice game in a few weeks against Frankston Primary School on June 2nd and then our Lightning Premiership Day at JPC on 7th of June.

Mother's Day

Thank you to all the special ladies who joined us for our beautiful Mass and Morning Tea yesterday. It was so fasntstic to see so many smiling women. We thank you for all the hard work you do and wish you a relaxing day on Sunday.

Don't forget to have a look at your new Home Learning tasks on Google Classroom. We look forward to sharing some of your experiments towards the end of the term.

Enjoy your weekend and week ahead.
