We hope that everyone enjoyed celebrating those special people in our lives on Mother's Day, last weekend. The weather was certainly beautiful! Thank you to all that attended our Mother's Day breakfast - what a magnificent turn out!
On Japanese Day, students were encouraged to bring a gold coin donation in to raise funds for some plants to be placed outside the new Japanese Room. $374 was raised so some lovely Weeping Cherry Blossom trees will be purchased in the near future, an idea initiated by our students! I believe that growing some Japanese herbs is also part of the plan. Well done, Sensei Junko!
Our school review was completed last week and as a result, will have a new Strategic Plan that will drive the next 4 years of our teaching and learning program. This new plan provides very clear directions and actions in both the teaching and learning domains, as well as the wellbeing domain. We will share this plan with our community once it has been endorsed by the Department of Education. You will be pleased to know that we passed the compliance aspect of the review with flying colours!
Next Friday, 26th May is a Curriculum Day (student free). On this day, staff will be involved in CUST training for most of the day. Community Understanding and Safety Training (CUST) is professional learning for school staff to increase their understanding of Koorie culture, history and experiences. The purpose of the training is to ensure a strong foundation for culturally inclusive schools and practices, which can have a positive impact on Koorie students’ health and wellbeing. CUST aligns with the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes, particularly the state priority of ‘Positive Climate for Learning’. Our staff are very much looking forward to the learnings that this day will bring.
