3/4 B

Week 1 Term 2

Welcome back to term 2!

I hope you thoroughly enjoyed your Easter break.

This term promises to be just as busy as term 1, with plenty of exciting learning experiences in front of us.

Maths

Topics in Maths for term 2 include: Multiplication and division, fractions, area and length, time and money.

Inquiry

Our Inquiry unit in term 2 is called Into the Unknown. In this unit the students will consider changes in their life in the context of our history. They will learn how people voyaged into the unknown during the Age of Exploration and reflect on the importance and origins of commemorations in Australia and around the world. In week 3 we will be going on a local history walk around Frankston. The permission note will be coming out via Operoo shortly.

Writing

To better connect to our Inquiry topic: Into the Unknown, the students will learn how to write information reports and become better writers using factual information. What is a fact? What is an opinion? And how do we tell the difference between one and the other? What can we include in our factual writing to make it interesting and entertaining? How can we locate interesting information, summarise it and make it our own writing?

Education in Faith

At the end of term 2 some of our Year 4 students will celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The date for the sacrament is Sunday 18th June.

Respectful RelationshipsPersonal strengths.

Activities in this unit will assist students to:

• Describe personal strengths and challenges

• Identify skills and strengths they wish to develop

• Describe factors that contribute to positive relationships with people at school, home and in the community

• Identify communication skills that enhance relationships

• Describe characteristics of cooperative behaviour and identify evidence of these in group activities.

Looking forward to seeing you all across the term.
